Shi Zhecun, a man of learning both in Chinese and western culture, witnessed almost the whole process of the rebuilt and development of Chinese literature in the 20th century. It is rare in the 20th century's Chinese literary and cultural history that he experienced changing historical events, passed a tortuous literary road and played a variety of literary roles. As a representative of 1930s modernist literature, his modernist novels attracted much attention, while his poems and essays attracted less. In fact, his beautiful essays and poems are impartial parts of his literary works.This thesis sets out by taking a deep look into his life experience to explore Shi's ideological and aesthetic changes and features of Shi's essays and poems. His essays and poems not only possess a tasteful artistic style but also shine profound thoughts. In the basis of former scholars'studies, this thesis intends to analyze Shi's essays and poems as a whole.In the first part of the thesis, the changing process of his literary ideas and writings is concluded as a study background of his writing of essays and poems. In the second part, by exploring his experience from entering the literary circle in the 1920s and 1930s until restarting writing at the end of the twenties century, the major achievements and features of his essay writing are figured out. In the third part, a conclusive analyze is made in his poem writing from explaining his theoretical contributions to the Chinese modernist poetry and his modernist poem writings to conclude the features and causes of his return to writing Chinese classical poems. In conclusion, statue of his essays and poems in Chinese modern and contemporary literature is suggested.By analyzing and interpreting Shi's essays and poems, his writing's richness can be finally found out and the unique charm in his writing can also be appreciated. And through Shi's writings, we can also understand the statue of Shi in Chinese modern and contemporary Literature.
