In the early 20 th century, Imagism marked the beginning of British and American modernist poetry. It has also made immense influences on Chinese modern poetics, especially the modernist poetry school in 1930 s. The paper mainly studied the historical facts and major feature of the impacts which Imagism had made on Chinese modernist poetry school, to figure out the uniqueness, value and significance of these impacts. Moreover, it studied the contribution and limits of Imagism’s influences as well as the development prospect of the modernist imagist poetry.Except the introduction, the paper is composed of three parts.The first part introduces the profile of Chinese modernist poetry school’s acceptance of Imagism, emphatically describes the background, processes of the acceptance and the formation of the Chinese modernist imagist poet group. Imagism didn’t prevail for a long time, but its effect was profound, particularly on the poets in 1930 s. However, many researchers confuse Imagism and Symbolism. Someone call Imagism as the late Symbolism. After thorough exploring, even Imagism have some resemblances with Symbolism, it does have special influences on Chinese modern poetry.The second part is divided into three chapters, which elaborate how Chinese modernist poetry school absorb and integrate with Imagism, their imitation and innovation on poetry writing as well as their reference and development on poetry subject. In terms of poetry theory, the paper focus on the theories that Chinese modernist poetics school learned from Imagism and figure out what innovation they made based on these theories. In the second chapter, the paper mainly discussed poetry writing from three respects, which are the mix of emotionality and rationality, the combination of ancient conception and modern scene, the synergy of music and sentiment. Chinese modernist poets created diverse poetry subjects. During these poetry subjects the two most important ones are City Poem and Nature Poem. The third chapter analyses the birth reason, the characteristics and the influences of these two poetry subjects.Finally, a preliminary evaluation of the Chinese modernist poetry school’s acceptance of Imagism is made. The third part summaries the contribution that British and American Imagism made to Chinese modernist poetry school and the shortcomings of the absorption process, to prepare for the potential integration with foreign culture in the future. Meanwhile, describes the development prospect of Chinese modernist imagist poetry and its poetry creation.
