Er Ya is the first Xun Gun subject monograph of China. It focuses on the study of synonyms, in which words are explained in the way of synonyms aggregation. Lucubrating scholars have achieved a lot on this book from the perspectives of Xun Gun.subject, lexics, philology, but on theproblem of synonyms-the core study of this book which involves object, method, format, there is few or even no achievements. Dispute is endless to this book about it being a synonym dictionary or a thesaurus. On the above problems, this dissertation makes a general and meticulous research from lemma to the whole book. It consists of theory expatiation and doubtful lemma explanation. The theory part includes five aspects. The first is the expressing manners of synonyms in Er Ya. The expressing manners are term model and non-term model. Zhi Xun, Tong Xun, Di Xun are ways of expressing synonyms in Xun Gu manner, but Sheng Xun is independent of synonyms, so we analyze it at large. Ways of expressing synonyms in Er Ya has still writing form. This book has more monosyllabic words which have different writing form. We discuss the make of and relationship between "synonymous words". The second is the common points of synonymous words in Er Ya. We put emphasis on analyzing the aggregation relations of general synonyms, more meanings in a lemma, Fan Xun words, twain character words, and the common points of synonymous empty words in the first three sections. Cultural synonyms in the following sixteen are different from the general synonyms in first three sections, We discuss the aggregation relations of cultural synonyms, the aggregation peculiarities of original proper noun, and the peculiarities of complex words used as content synonyms. The third is the differentiation of synonymous words in Er Ya. The latter sixteen sections of this book differentiate and analyze cultural words whose rational meanings are different. The methods of differentiating and discriminating culture words are three points: taking one meaning as the center, grasping the main different points and determining the cultural meaning. Er Ya has yet shortcomings: the similarity degree of one meaning in synonymous words is not exact and accurate, also lack of system, no clarity in differentiating matters. Er Ya does not differentiate equality meaning words. We do more research in recognizing methods of equality meaning words, and further we differentiate equality meaning words on level of pragmatics and word-formation. The fourth is the characteristics of synonymity in -Er Ya. Synonyms systems in Er Ya include synonymous words system and synonymity arrangment system. The latter includes the frontal which is the basic cell. We discuss the non-equality, developmental opening, hierarchical and cognitive illegibility of synonymity arrangment system. The fifth is synonym characters, station and tradition in Er Ya. We expatiate synonym characters in Er Ya on the basis of the former sections: one meaning gathering character, synonym contrasting character, criterion character and arrangment character by meaning. We study the important status and effect of the synonyms on the history of Xun Gu subject, linguistics. Synonyms in Er Ya represent the tradition of synonyms study in ancient China, which is synonyms explaining character, synonyms era character, dimensional opening character, standard one-meaning character, synonyms gathering character, matter leading character. We briefly generalize the shortcomings too. Doubtful lemmas explanation includes four aspects: firstly, common points of synonymous words. We straighten up twenty items misread as near synonymity relation andthirty three cultural synonyms misexplained as matter. Secondly, differentiation of general synonyms. Er Ya does not explain some cultural synonyms. We open out the same and different points to forty six items. Thirdly, more meanings in a lemma. In Er Ya a polysemous word is explained individually by meanings, thus forming synonym relation, which misleads people to take it as more meanings sharing one lemma. We explain t...
