This dissertation is going to research the culture vicissitude of Pingpu ethnic groups in Taiwan, in order to well knowing the whole course of the culture vicissitudes of Pingpu society and finding its reasons and characters.Among the Austronesian in Taiwan, Pingpu ethnic groups are very particular. There are some different sub-ethnic groups. Because they contacted with some other cultures first of all, such as Han culture of China mainland, the Holland culture and Spanish culture of Occident. They had become the rapidest and the most drastically ethnic groups in social culture among Taiwan ethnic groups. Taiwan was unified by Qing Dynasty in 1683. Pingpu ethnic groups contacted with Han migrants more continually. After the mid and later period of Qing Dynasty, Pingpu ethnic groups amalgamated in Han culture basically. Today when the tide of globalization becomes higher and higher and the crash of national culture grows frequent, it is important to do the research on the cultural vicissitudes of Pingpu ethnic groups undoubtedly.Though the dissertation emphasizes on the complete research on the cultural vicissitudes of Pingpu society in Qing Dynasty, the first four chapters mainly gives a review of the status of Pingpus' social economic & culture before Qing Dynasty for the readers to get some information onPingpus' social economic & culture.The chapter V describes the basic situations, such as the distribution of Pingpu ethnic groups in Qing Dynasty, and the classification of Pingpu ethnic groups in academe. And in this part, the emphasis is on the relations and distinctions of the Pingpu named "Shoufan", the upland ethnic groups named "Shengfan", and "Huafan" between the "Shoufan" and "Shengfan".The chapter VI emphasizes on the discussion of the governing policy to Taiwan and the Minority policy on Pingpu ethnic groups in Qing Dynasty. It is concluded that the governing policy to Taiwan and Minority policy on Pingpu ethnic groups in Qing Dynasty gives more profound influences on Pingpus' social economic & culture.The chapter VII discusses the condition of Pingpus' social economic & culture in Qing Dynasty. Under the ceaseless teem of Han migrants; the traditional production mode was replaced by the stable agriculture of Han nationality soon. The economic base of Pingpus' traditional social culture was destroyed drastically. It is inevitable that Pingpu ethnic groups would be amalgamated by Han nationality.The Chapter VIII expatiates the idiographic performance of Pingpus' social culture vicissitude in Qing Dynasty roundly, through the life style, marriage, family, social organization, religion, customer, etc.The chapter IX discusses the question of Pingpus' languageextinction. Language is a very important character of ethnic group. Language is the most important carrier in transmitting ethnic culture. The extinction of language means the extinction of ethnic traditional culture. From the process of Pingpus' culture vicissitude, we can find an important character that the extinction of Pingpus' language is synchronous with the extinction of Pingpus' traditional social culture. This is the reason that results in the extinction of Pingpus' social culture in Qing Dynasty.The chapter X analyses and summarizes the reasons and characters of the social culture vicissitude of Pingpu ethnic groups.
