As a Chinese traditional classic book, Lao-zi has been attached much importance, and has rushed many research works about it. From the twentieth century, Dun-Huang collection, Guo-Dian bamboo books of the Chu, and silk books of the Ma-Wang-Dui came up out of the land one after another, lending us so many worthful research materials of Lao-zi. Comparatively speaking, a research of Lao-zi about Guo-Dian bamboo books of the Chu, and silk books of the Ma-Wang-Dui has been done more thoroughly. Meanwhile, Dun-Huang collections of Lao-zi materials haven' t got much attention from the research fields due to many reasons. This dissertation, which is based on the former researches, firstly gives a thoroughly and systematic discussion about the Dun-Huang collection of Lao-zi.There are seven chapters in the dissertation. The first chapter retrospects to the research achievements of the recent one hundred years and added some comments, the second chapter is a detailed introduction of the Dun-Huang collection of Lao-zi and at the same time points out the record, print and research refer to each edition .The third chapter discusses the textual characters of the Dun-Huang collection of Lao-zi . The fourth chapter is mainly about the Dun-Huang collection of Lao-zi' s chapters, word count and the system of handed down edition. The dissertation points out that Lao-zi was divided into Tao thirty-six chapters and De forty-five chapters might be influenced by the belief of numeral occultism, this origin is ancient and can be traced to the Han dynasty. This kind of chapter dividing mode is the same to the Lao-zi chapter-dividing mode of Tao thirty-seven chapters and De forty-four chapters, which is reasonable to itself, and is widely used in the certain phase.
