Novels trends of thought of the New Period happen frequently, and many types andstyles appear. Every kind of trends may fade quickly like a flower or keeps only for severalyears and then cease all activities. Narrative of irony has also " character of tideway" .Different from others , narrative of irony contacts with "the New Period" in history/culturebecause of its special meaning, particular value, thoughts mission. Narrative of irony hasnot "gone out of the scene". It is one of dominant clues in novels of the New Period, is asignificant "being" in narrative of literature during the New Period, is always "present"from beginning to now in literature. Narrative of irony is not transcendent essence andsurrealistic imagination about novels of New Period. But it witnesses enantiomorphouslyand explains profound changes of history/culture, social spirit structure, thought geographydiagram in the New Period. Special aesthetic character of irony is explained deeply by"history" of "the New Period", "irony" is regarded as interpretative footnote and narrativemodel by "history" of "the New Period" on the way. Enantiomorphous relation betweenirony and the New Period not only has abundant aesthetic meaning, but also has elucidatoryvalue in culture. In current " era of irony", "irony" is an aesthetic rencontre as well as athought condition /a kind of spirit trope in this era.Based on much reading, experence, thoughts, this thesis takes "irony" as an importantstanding point and an angle of view in order to study novels of the New Period. Adopting acombinative study method which combines history analysis with esthetics analysis,integrates theory with text, links course with discussion, this thesis gives a holistic andsystemic analysis to narratives of irony during the New Period for the first time. Throughtdeep discussion into narratives of irony, much study on text , serious exploring into novels ,we want to touch history pulse of the literature in the New Period, to clean awaynumerous complicated history soot and reality presentation, to find partly history truthunder the paradoxical condition of complicated state of affairs in China.The part of introduction, firstly, gives an systemic exploring into irony from ancienttime till now, and then make clear historic changes of meaning and extension about the"irony" concept. On the basis of this, it demarcates three aspects of irony concept:rhetorical irony, narrative irony, ontological irony. Secondly it explains that narrative ofirony is always "on the scene", dominant, diffuse , important in novels of the New Period,explains the profound meaning of history, culture, behind the phenomenon of narrativeirony. Thirdly it introduces the study value, method system , logic structure of this thesisbriefly.Chapter 1 interprets the backgroud of irony and the elementary reason why narrativeof irony broke up and developed fast in the New Period after long time's breaking. Only bythis can we find connection between history analysis and esthetics analysis. And then thepaper lays analysis emphases on the changes of narrative of irony in the New Period anddiscribes lengthways the track of narrative of irony ---"rise and falling" by means ofcombining history with discussion.Chapter 2, on the basis of foregoing historical explanation, gives a detail analysisbreadthwise on complicated narrative of irony in the New Period, and then classify threetypes of irony and their configuration: rhetorical irony, narrative irony and ontologicalirony. By this we can open out the secret relation between types of irony and time spiritstucture.Chapter 3 lays particular emphasis on "detection" in the lately period history , but itdoes not construct ironic poetics to learn, this chapter from levels, such as"modernironic visual field ", "ironic description of being apart from", "the ironic field full oftension" and "comedy character and tragedy spirit"...etc. on one hand analyzes non-contextual, permanent, not-historic, common character of ironic recount, then discovers itscontextual , up-to-date ,historic "new changes " of "lately period"s narrative on the otherhand. Analysis not only lies in form level , also in a cultural consideration .Chapter 4 focuses after ironizing recounting of the new history quality-ironizing ofpost-modernity, placing it in lately period in the post-modern cultural visual field carries onadjudicating. This chapter from" noumenon atrophied with decadent" and "ironicrecounting to revel" displays ironic recounting of post-modernity view. From the themedimension, the former empresses that in the post-modern world,"person" falls flop, fromrecounting dimension, the latter discusses indeterminacy, absurdity, probability of"suspensive irony" presented in ironizing of the post-modern meaning.Chapter 5 gives a holistic value examining and recounting judgment to the ironicphenomenon of the lately period novel, talks about spallation of ironic recounting, ironist,gives emphasize to criticism to irony criticizing spirit that degenerates at moment, andfrom the aspects, such as"do not add a course to choose an irony", "much more irony onhistory game ", "irony that can not compare with thing ", "free going into a wrong path","irony lying in ' now' too much" and" phenomenon covering value judgment to beconcerned with "...etc. gives serious criticism to "depravity" of irony.The conclusion part clarifies appreciate esthetics value about lately period novel inironic recounting, historic meaning and cultural containing, also points out complicatedrecounting problem and shortage existed. Then after serious analysis we can draw aconclusion that a stage current of ironic recounting has already passed by, after theexhausted criticism, the enthusiasm of subversion irony encounters an esthetics hardnessand a thought predicament, on this meaning, irony of narrative has already not only beenthe form problem of expression , but also been the substance problem of expression. Thearticle points out finally that irony only bases itself on a reality empirical foundation andsurmounts the experience level of "existence" constantly, facing "existence" of depth,absurdity and predicament. Only by entering continuously into "existence", irony ofnarrative can have a possibility of getting away from the predicament.Generally speaking, although irony of narrative has many problems or shortages, it is aextremely good narrative type to explain Chinese living and Chinese problem, also is anabsolutely necessary existence attitude and value position to deal with the life and artproblem.
