Beijing Dialect Commonly Used Words Of Social Stratification

This dissertation mainly deals with the relationship between using frequency and speaker's social factors of 89 words in common use in Beijing Mandarin.Chapter one "Introduction"A brief introduction introduces the general situation of Beijing Mandarin, the materials presented and the method adopted in this dissertation.The materials used in this dissertation come from " Beijing modern language corpus of spoken language " which has 102 speakers and 20,4000 words. This dissertation uses SPSS, GOLDVARB and social linguistics' research methods to verify the relativity and diversity between the using frequency of 89 words in the database and age, gender, occupational reputation, education level, nationality and resident place factors.The fourth part of this chapter briefly reviews the research of language variation, social linguistics of Beijing Mandarin and social class.Chapter two "Age diversity"It can be seen from relative researches that there is the notable relativity between the using frequency of 25 words and speakers' age. The speakers are divided into two groups: young people and old people and it can be summarized that there are 70 words revealing increase or decrease trend affected by age variety in at least one group. It accounts for 80% in total 89 words.Chapter three "Gender diversity"The result of t test about total 89 words in two groups: male and female shows that there is thedistinct diversity between the using frequency of 21 words and gender. Different age segment hasdifferent gender diversity. The tendency words of male are "现在" , "咱们" , "这" . "那儿" ,"过", "要", "再" , "在" and "啊" .The tendency words of female are "孩子" , "那""他" , "他们" , "两" , "小" . "大" . "别" and "吧" .Chapter four "Occupational reputation diversity"The main purpose of this chapter is to discuss the influence of occupational reputation to the using of words.There is the different variety trend of words' distribution in different occupational reputation group. 65 words represent the consistency of variety in different group, at the same time they can be distinguished by amount and direction. It means that there is diversity of occupational distribution of 73% in 89 words. The speakers can be divided into two diction corporations according to occupational reputation.
