This report is based on the Chinese-English translation which is an informativetext professional in social science. And there are six students to carry out thetranslation task. The original text, about10000Chinese characters, is taken from the4th chapter of Social Stratification in Contemporary China: Measurement andAnalysis. The book mainly talks about the social stratification and the reasons whythere is a gap between the rich and the poor in China, while the chapter of my papergenerally focuses on some major characteristics of China’s social stratification beforethe reform. Its author gives us a valuable insight into his analysis and understandingsof social stratification in contemporary China.The translation report, based on the translator’s own translation experiences,consists of five chapters—task description; translating process description; theory andmethod explanation; case analysis; summary of translating practice. In the section oftranslating process description, the translator cites a lot of examples to illustrate themethods and techniques and analyzes the mistakes and problems and also the difficultpoints appearing in the translating process.
