This dissertation conducts a research on the variation of Western stream of consciousness fiction art novels in Chinese New Period. It has the opinion that the stream of consciousness fiction arised in late 19th century and early 20th century not only changed Western literature tremendously, but also caused major changes of narrative art of novels in Chinese New Period. The remarkable sign is that the fiction's core of narrating has transferred from imitating the outside world to digging the spiritual world of people. Hence, with the development of novels in Chinese New Period, the creative vision began truly entered the "people", and the main body of literature.This dissertation consists of three parts, the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction outlines the relationship of stream of consciousness fiction and "people" of literary works, points out that Western stream of consciousness fictions set a successful example in expressing the true "people" of Western modern society. It also has the opinion that after absorbing Western stream of consciousness fiction art, novels in Chinese New Period started indigenization of artistic practice of expressing "people". The first chapter combs the translation and acceptance situation and the indigenization tendency of the Stream of Consciousness in China. The second chapter analyzes the variation of Western stream of consciousness fiction art in novels in Chinese New Period from three aspects: inner soliloquy, free association and perceptive impression. It points out that although novels in Chinese New Period has accepted stream of consciousness from the perspective of art form, but the creative use of this art form has made the fiction creation closer to the real world of people, and the connotation of "people" in novels in Chinese New Period is distilled from here. Taking Wang meng's novels in the new era and Mo yan's novels in the mid of 1980's rich in Stream of Consciousness as case studies, chapter three analyzes the process of acquiring the Notion of Human Being from rationality to perceptual knowledge. Chapter four, taking Novels of Individual's Soliloquy as examples, discusses the developing trend Stream of Consciousness in Chinese literature in 1990's. This dissertation points out that although Stream of Consciousness at its peak in 1980's, it has in no way stopped flowing in 1990's, but rather, it takes on a richer and more complicated shape.
