My dissertation focuses on the relationship between the Mexican modern ejido institution and the process of modernization since 1930s. The first, second, third chapter investigate why Mexico established a new ejido institution after the Revolution of 1910.The rest of this text is interested in the role the new ejido institution has played in the process of modernization of this country. My dissertation concludes: the ejido institution established widely in the Cardenas era is different to the traditional one, it is called "the modern ejido institution" by me because it is the result of the struggle and negotiation between the Radicalists and Liberalists, and has the special social meaning. As an important aspect of the Cardenas reform it has played very positive role in destroying the haciendas and caudillismo, so Mexico has created the double miracles, one is economic miracle with rapid growth;the other is the political miracle, which means the endured stability. But, My dissertation pay more attention to analyze the latent unstability hidden in stability so as to reveal the "the mystery of unstability" since the 1970s. In the text I conclude: a network consisted of government—Revolutionary institutional party—cacique (rural elite) has taken shape in the country, in which caciques have played important role in sustaining the political system by containing the demands of ejidatarios, controlling their ballots. At one hand this system impeded the modernization of ejidos through weakening of political force and reducing the helpness of the liberal State to them, at the other hand, the land reform has been slowed, this caused the increase of number of the peasants without land who has been free of the control of the political network, this has became the source of unstability since mid-1970s. My dissertation synthesize the multi-discipline theories and mainly use system analyze, structure-functional methods.
