History And Interpretation

This dissertation reconsiders the Chinese traditional classics of Spring and Autumn Annals'GongYang Study with the background of western speculative and analytical historical philosophy. Relying on the dissertation, the Spring and Autumn Annals'GongYang Study basically belongs to the theory of the speculative historical philosophy with some analytical and critical cognitions of historic events and texts. Basing on the quality of historical philosophy of GongYang Study, the dissertation also recomprehends some problems in Chinese history of thought, recommentates the destiny of GongYang Study and summarizes the historical philosophical characters of GongYang Study in comparison with western speculative historical philosophy.Besides introduction and epilogue, the dissertation is divided into four chapters.The first chapter discusses the forming process of historical philosophy of GongYang Study. From the aspect of historical philosophy, Spring and Autumn Annals is History instead of Chronicle. Spring and Autumn Annals'GongYangZhuan has drawn a series of historical philosophy propositions. Dong ZhongShu even created the theory of three Unities in his philosophic system of the ontology of Heaven. He Xiu also established a speculative historical philosophy system by raising the Theory of Three Epochs. Thus GongYang Study was a reasonable consequence of Confucian thoughts in the domain of historical philosophy.The second chapter analyzes the four hermeneutic levels of the historical philosophy of GongYang Study. The Spring and Autumn Annals'GongYang Study is classical hermeneutics. In the course of forming speculative historical philosophy from the scholium of Spring and Autumn Annals, four hermeneutic levels (Event, Text, Principle, Meaning) came into being. While analyzing the four levels, the chapter points out that the historical philosophy of GongYang Study agreed with the modern western analytical historical philosophy, especially on the considerations about historic event and historic text.The third chapter interprets its destiny in the academic history from the historical philosophy property of GongYang Study.
