As a famous book in pre-Qin literature in our country, Yugong has been put much emphasis by scholars of past generations. Of all the ancients documents available, Yugong is the earliest to give a detailed record of Xia history. It is purportedly written by Xiayu , the founder of the Xia Dynasty, which seems not very convincing , but due to its characteristic of being logical, and society of the Xia dynasty reflected by Yugong, it has provided rare and extreemly important historical documents for research on the history and society of the Xia Dynasty, given its characteristic and the social conditions it reflects in the Xia Dynasty.Based on sufficient data, the dissertation has conducted comprehensive, systematic and in-depth research on some problems referred to by Yugong in the Xia society under the guidance of dialectic materialism and historical materialism and with resort to multidisciplinary and multi-ply argumentation, and macroscopic and microcosmic combined as a research method.This dissertation is divided into six chapters.The first chapter introduces the basic contents , characteristics of Yugong,comment on the developing skeleton of the research and a survey on it. It also touches upon the meaning of selecting this topic, guiding thoughts in writing this article, research methods and the main innovations.The second chapter is one of the key chapters in the article. Based on complete introduction and evaluations of the finishing time of Yugong made by different generations and the characteristics of the writing styles of ancient books, the similarity between the inscriptions on the ware---- Suigong in the mid Western Zhou Dynasty and the opening chapter of Yugong, the Zhou people's respect for the Xia, manual iron smelting originating in the late Western Zhou, etc. the conclusion that the main contents were finished in the mid Western Zhou Dynasty can be reached.
