| Structuralism constitutes the classic theory of narrative time on a dual basis. Time in narration is presumed to be the form of line, and key terms such as order, duration and frequency are put out. However, the theory of narrative time exposes limitations on the part of Essences and Formalism in the research of modern fiction, which makes it not to take on the narrative research. Otherwise, Phenomenology put fundamental interest on the subjectivity notion, whose essence is constitution fulfilled in the life experience of subject. It constitution extends into time-consciousness and translates into temporality and narrativity, which makes phenomenological time adapt better to the research of time art in modem fiction. Then a theory paradigm happens when the research angel changes from Structuralism to Phenomenology. On the basis of Husserl's Phenomenology and from different angels, Heidegger's Existentialism, Merleau-Ponty's Phenomenology of Perception and Derrida's Post-structuralism develop subjectivity, and Existentialism's "being-toward-death", Phenomenology of Perception's "flesh" and Post-structuralism's "differance" are further developments of subjectivity, take on an ontological position in relevant theory, and deepen into phenomenology of "consciousness", phenomenology of "body" and phenomenology of "discourse". Furthermore, they explicate temporality and its meanings from respective angels and unfold a common characteristic of phenomenological time, namely a fraction of time. This flat roof of theory can open up a deep space for the research of time art in modern fiction. Three classic novels of modern times, which are The Sound and the Fury, In Search of Lost Time and Ulysses, unfold time art of transcendence, time art of revivification and time art of revel from three above kinds of phenomenology correspondingly, and the main characters of the novels create a spiritual life-world.Case study reveals full meanings of narrative time in fiction under the angel of Phenomenology. In fact, narrative time can contain profound life-space, which is... |
