QunjingYinbian is a book which especially differentiates and analyzes those words having the same form but different sound and meanings of Classics, as well as an important philology literature of Song dynasty. It classifies and analyzes more than 1100 words having variant pronunciations, becoming the first nonesuch literature which specialized in explaining the derivation by phonetic change in Chinese traditional philology history. QunjingYinbian is merely an anabranch in the long river of science development, but because of its upper academic value in more than one aspect, such as phonetics, lexics, etc, and having important impact on the later times, therefore it is very necessary to make a further study on it. Many scholars have discussed in some aspects and achieved a lot, but there is still much deficiency in many aspects. As long as make a entire and systemic study on QunjingYinbian, can we excavate its academic values sufficiently. This dissertation plans to make an all-sided discussion about its content, style, the derivation by phonetic change, etc. being based on the former research works. Through the study, we want to do our best to make up for the groat deficiency in the former study, bestead the summing-up of traditional classics and philology, consequently make the study on the traditional written Chinese more deepened in theory.There are seven volumes in QunjingYinbian and was classified five phylums. The content of the anterior five volumes is called "Bianzitongyinyi", which is very complex and mainly differentiates and analyzes the variant pronunciation words with the same form but different meanings resulted from various causes, including the alternative pronunciation words resulted from close tone, special terms, derivation by phonetic change, and so on. Volume six includes three items, that is "Bianziyinqingzhuo","Bianbiciyiyin"and "Bianziyinyihun", which specially discriminates the pure derivations by phonetic change in Old Chinese. Volume seven attached the end of the book is called "Bianzixundeshi", emphasizing the relations between the form and meaning of nine words. This dissertation includes five chapters in all, having mainly discussed about the content of the anterior four items deeply.Some basic questions such as the author, book-composing, content, system, editions and so on, are the premise and basement of the study on QunjingYinbian. Earlier and present-day scholars have made some discussions about those questions, but most are scattered and non-systemic, which need to make a further review and carding firstly. We have made a special discussion about the foregoing basic questions in the first chapter, especially the numerous editions, which provide the researchers with a copy of credible basic datum.The materials used by Jia Changchao to compose QunjingYinbian are mainly adopted from Jingdianshiwen, therefore there is a very close relations between these two books. We may say, if there is no Jingdianshiwen, then it is very difficult to compose QunjingYinbian. However, because Jia Changchao had grasped the materials of Jingdianshiwen skillfully, realized the alternative pronunciation phenomenon deeply and made a very hard work, QunjingYinbian has surpassed Jingdianshiwen whether in the style or content. Lu Deming has placed the abundant materials in Jingdianshiwen, Jia Changchao had made a selection and generalization on these materials and made them theorized. Therefore what QunjingYinbian provides the readers is no longer with the isolated datum, but with a key to the material mine of Jingdianshiwe. From this point, QunjingYinbian has gone up to a new height on the base of Jingdianshiwen, which is a great progress. The composing of QunjingYinbian is a course which Jiashi absorbed the datum and further generalized it. During this course, Jia Changchao had made a lot of work, such as picking up the alternative pronunciation materials, classifying it, making complete coordination, and so on. This is an important question deserved to make a special study, so we discussed it in chapter two.The three items of volume six classifies and analyzes 210 typical derivation by phonetic change of traditional Chinese, which had inaugurated a new research field for present-day scholars. Therefore many scholars have been interested in this field and paid more attention on it for many years, but there is still short of entire and systemic study. This quesstion have been discussed particularly in the third chapter. We have analyzed these words from two angles separately: one is the form of phonetic change, the other is the function of phonetic change. Through a further study, we want to search the rules of this language phenomenon and the particular contribution made by Jia Changchao in this research field.QunjingYinbian is a quite influential bookmaking which has taken the author more than 20 years to compose. It had just been finished but not published when Jiyun began to edit, but its original manuscript was come down among the other editors of Jiyun. QunjingYinbian was the most systematical and self-contained dictionary on alternative pronunciation words then and there. Because it could offer some reference and convenience for the editing of Jiyun, the editors had paid highly attention on it and used it to compose Jiyun as an important reference, thus having significant effect on Jiyun in many aspects. We set forth this question in Chapter four from the following aspects: compiling ideas, improving fanqie, adding sound and meaning of the variant pronunciation words, etc. At last, we draw a conclusion that Jiyun had selectively absorbed and accepted some research fruits of QunjingYinbian.As a book which takes traditional written Chinese as a research object, QunjingYinbian not only quoted abundant classics literature materials, but also contained plenty of language materials such as zhiyin, fanqie, acceptation, derivation by phonetic change, and so on, which is a material mine for research on the phonetics, glossary of traditional written Chinese. Therefore it not only possesses important philology value, but has quite significant language study value. QunjingYinbian is the first systemic dictionary which specially gathered the variant pronunciation words with the same form but different meanings in our ancient times. It not only met the social need of reading classics for the bookman then and there, but possessed a consequence in the history of Chinese dictionary compiling. Moreover, it has some reference and illumination significance on today's dictionary compiling whether in system or in content. In addition, as a bookmaking which is aimed at correcting phonetics and differentiating meanings, QunjingYinbian has important value in the standardization of written Chinese. In a word, QunjingYinbian possessed significant value in many aspects, which had not only met the realistic need, but promoted the development of science and had great effect on the later times. Chapter five mainly discussed these questions. The originalities and innovations of this dissertation are as following:(1) QunjingYinbian has legion editions, and there are abundant edition materials. However, most of these materials are scattered in the records, bibliography and postscript, and few scholars had seen about it by the numbers. This dissertation have made coordination on it for the first time, and reviewed every edition particularly, which established a favorable groundwork for the deep study on QunjingYinbian.(2) In the previous study, few scholars had treated of the relations between QunjingYinbian and Jingdianshiwen, we have put it forward specially in this dissertation and made a preparatory discussion, which is not only propitious to grasping the venation of the learning development, but can help us to look on QunjingYinbian correctly and objectively.(3) Research on derivation by phonetic change is a very important content for QunjingYinbian. The former scholars had paid a lot of attention on this field, but most laid particular stress on discriminating part of the derivation by phonetic change and lack of systemic study. This dissertation had taken the content as a main body to discuss, making the analysis of every derivation word combined with the discussion of rules. We tried our best to excavate the cognition and exploiting contribution of Jia Changchao sufficiently nine hundred years ago. In addition, this dissertation had also discussed about the content of ZiyinSanbian from the syntax angle for the first time and generalized the grammmartical ideas and conception of Jia Changchao.(4) Former scholars had a very little discussion on the academic value and effect of QunjingYinbian, and their discussion was generally limited to some aspect. We have made great efforts at this aspect in the dissertation, and discussed sufficiently on its value in many aspects, such as philology, language reality, dictionary, written Chinese standardization, and so on, which display the outstanding status and action of QunjingYinbian in the history of traditional Chinese.
