There are rich and generous factors about culture and arts stored up in traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting, further more, there are close relationship between traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. Great achievement has been obtained in various fields by the traditional literati-calligraphy and painting , but no systematic cognition has been stroken up. It is regarded as a new -and–old problem in setting forth systematically the profound synchronously on calligraphy and painting. The author dealed with this problem on idea with a retrospective attitude. On the one hand we could trace to the source of the traditional cultural idea about the calligraphy and painting ,on the other hand ,we could still touch the main point to the visual factor of the traditional calligraphy and painting through the form character of the idea . On the background of traditional culture, the dissertation studies the form characteristic of calligraphy and painting. Paying attention to the calligraphy and the painting as the all and the one, the research combines grand frame with microcosmic special topic in order to be studied entirely and deeply. Firstly, differentiation are given to the idea of calligraphy and painting into two large configuration pieces: one is the cultural background lay which are the social base ,the source of cosmology and the factor of philosophy, the other is the form characteristic arrangement which are expressing one's emotion and idea, the form and the content and the skills. Next, take each special topic separately from three lays and three arrangements in order to be studied thoroughly and totally have six special topics which are custom and calligraphy idea , resolution to the idea of Calligraphy and Painting Having the Same Roots ,Heaven and Man in One and Chinese painting idea, essential of the vigor of style in calligraphy, Bei Xue -Tie Xue and South School - North School ,Yong -Zi–Ba- Fa and Xie He's six canons of painting. The dissertation gives prominence to the significance of these ideas showed in the six special topics .The tradition of calligraphy and painting has been established firmly because of efficiently using these ideas. The logic of the variety and development on calligraphy and painting could be affirmed and its prospect could be viewed by the ways of casting back these ideas and the status established from remote antiquity to present-day. In a word, the realization on tradition of calligraphy and painting could be passed through by this research and the particular spirits of the idea on traditional calligraphy and painting could be realized more and more in the creative working of those calligrapher and painter through the past dynasties. In a word, zoological character on culture and harmonous stamp on form have been possessed of by the idea of Chinese traditional art on calligraphy and painting, and the idea is of pround and expand ,and its clever movement is also be include ,synchronously the artistic idea is of fully kindness and beauty .
