Guan Shanyue was one of the mainstream artists of the 20th-century Chinese paintings. He was a prominent artist, an art educator and as well as an outstanding representative of the Lingnan school of paintings. He is called:" The first person of drawing plums of today". Now the learners study the art of Guan shanyue, they mainly study his style and character of art. They discuss generally and not deeply. It's a new subject to study Guan Shanyue's comparison of his calligraphy and drawing. So what we see now is only discussion of the art of his drawing, the thought of his creation and the style of his drawings, and they don't form into a system. Now I discuss them from five parts:The first is to tell the calligraphy and painting which are similar simply. The second is to discuss the function of the "line" used in calligraphy and paintings. The third part is one of the new creative contents. I will analyze the conception of Guan Shanyue's calligraphy and painting, analyze the soul of his painting when he drew. The forth is also new. It's the comparison of the creation of Guan Shanyue's calligraphy and painting. I will discuss the comparison of the creation of Guan Shanyue's calligraphy and painting from three periods. The first period is before 1949.The second period is from 1950 to 1980. The third period is from 1980 to 2000. The fifth part is the summary and results of my research. From the study to Guan Shanyue's calligraphy and painting, I want to make people notice Guan Shanyue's art of calligraphy and painting from the surface to much more deeper, from the knowledge of skill into the thought of art. Through noticing the hypostasis of his creation of skill, we are able to make it possible to admire, to research and to create Guan'works.
