On The Irony Literature In 1940s

Irony literature in 1940s refers to the literature produced from July 7 of 1937 to July 23 of 1949, during which there happened the movement of irony literature, debate on irony literature, trend of ironic literature and art, and the works of different authors. Acute conflict of nation and classes, the struggling interests among the dominating group, developed production system of modern literature, all these provide a good opportunity for the rise of irony literature. Deeply rooted in China's ancient irony literature, carrying forward the ironic spirit of the first one and two decade modern literature, accepting the western subject matters and exposing techniques, the 1940s irony literature has made a glorious achievement of the times. Irony literature of this period can be roughly divided into three periods, which are period of rising, period of developing and the period of flourishing.The legalized rise of irony literature in 1940s is the product of the jointing force of media, production bodies, ruling groups (no matter who were on power or were opposition), and publishing houses. So, it is for the above mentioned jointing force that the constructing of the field of irony literature is built on the struggling among their rejection to irony literature, intervening irony literature and "borrowing power". Meanwhile, the pursuit of legalized theory of 1940s irony literature results from the debate of the "exposure and irony" in the field of novels, essay's obscure writing techniques, as well as irony and luminosity in the field of drama. Furthermore, the claim for the legalized of irony literature is also a kind of rejection to the carrying of the policy of "Only Flattering! No Irony! ".The pressure of commentaries is the common direction of the production bodies and the managing organizers in 1940s irony literature. Through deepening and building commentaries issues, characters and events, production bodies surpassed the hinders of reality till the kingdom of literary appreciation. In order to prevent them from being politically suppressed by the political audience of the targeted commentary, the production bodies and managing organizers of 1940s irony literature combine to forge a situation of favorable conditions. Even though the 1940s irony literature contributed a lot to the then turbulent literary world, it also exposes some flaws, which are:(1)the monotonous feeling of the comedy, (2)high percentage of farce,(3)much more bitterly mocking at the defects of the characters,(4)failure to master the joking of love affairs, and (5)not being keen to demonstrate humor and tactic in the debate.As far as the pursuit of modernity of the 1940s irony literature, on the one hand, it displays the criticizing of humanity and nationality in the aspect of contents. On the other hand, it deconstructs modern enlightenment and love myth. in form., like the use of inter-permeating stylistically, making the past serving the present, and the use of dialects, colloquialism and western languages. The specific features of styles determine 1940s irony literature is pursuing the "abnormality" of modernity, i.e. using daily activities to refer to forever, replacing constructing by deconstructing, and using merging and inter-permeating to achieve independence and purity.Why modern irony literature is developed in spiral? It is argued that it accounts for the constraints of new China's politics and literature managing system, for the legalization of irony literature being needed politically, and for the determined and prescribed theory for the use of it in the opposing parties.
