Creative activity is influenced by the social, economical, political and spiritual conditions, especially influenced by the way of thinking and cultural psychology of a certain age. This essay tries to throw light on the inner psychological mechanism and the cultural meaning of the interior design of Ming-Dynasty housing, hoping to help the design focusing on civil trend under the globalization phenomenon .The paper separates into three parts(material\ behavior\ mentality) to analyze the characters of the interior design of Ming-Dynasty housing. Firstly, introducing the background of Ming Dynasty through society civilization and economy, the essay analyzes why Ming-dynasty housing came into being, the potential cultural meaning of it and what type of mental state it hinted. Here it explores the relations of the interior design of Ming-Dynasty housing with Ming-dynasty, when new thing greatly conflicted with traditions. The secord part is discuss the view of utility of interior design in Ming Dynasty and the relations of utility view with traditional civil mentality.The third is to analyze the living styles for different classes, with traditional cultural psychology, with the special life view of love life and free oneself". The interior design of Ming-Dynasty housing show a view of return to oneself, this essay also explores the inner cultural psychology and potential meaning of this idea.The final part is review and explain the status of the interior design of Ming-Dynasty housing, take for it as the most successful design in Chinese traditional design, which has most advantages of precedent. Now we can still learn a lot from it. It is still a long way ahead to explore how to make use of traditional Chinese design views in modern design.
