Dushu ZaZhi is the fruits of Wang's study on ancient books in notes. It absorbs the essence of the traditional Chinese philology. The strength of Dushu ZaZhi is shown in two aspects. One is exegetical study, the other is collation.With DuShu ZaZhi as the object, this dissertation adopts the approach of specific research based on the fruits of the forerunners. This dissertation diachronically summaries the features of the format, the facts of the citation, the functions of analogy, the terms of exegetical study and collation by combining expertise of ancient Chinese with some theories of modern linguistics, adopting the methods of description and statistics, and selecting the typical examples. The purpose of the dissertation is to make a further study so as to reveal the value of DuShu ZaZhi in a comprehensive way and offer sufficient materials for learning and developing Wang's fruit.This dissertation consists of 6 chapters, with the chapters from 2 to 6 as the central part.Chapter 1 is the introduction of the whole dissertation, summarizing the success of DuShu ZaZhi and the fruits of the forerunners' study and briefly introducing the approach, content and significance of the specific study on DuShu ZaZhi. Chapter 2 introduces in a brief way the history of note and the reasons for the flourish of the style of note in Qing Dynasty and focuses on the content, formation of note and relationship between notes. At the same time, Chapter 2 concludes the functions and values of explanation between lines with Guanzi as an illustration. Chapter 3 concludes the number and names of DuShu ZaZhi, summaries the content and function of citation and analyzes the features of citations with Shij'i as an illustration, so as to appraise highly the emphasis of evidence in DuShu ZaZhi. Chapter 4 elaborates the functions of analogy in DuShu ZaZhi from 5 aspects such as words, phrases, sentences, especial expressions and the exclusion of the four based on the full statistics, so as to show Wang's skillful application of analogy and have a further cognition of the device. Chapter 5 analyzes and concludes the meanings and functions of "xiangduiweiwen"("相对为文"), "duiwen"("对文"), "wentongyili"( "文同一例" )and "you"( "犹") respectively, and at the same time points out the failure in the use of "duiwen" in DuShu ZaZhi and identifies the different uses of "you"("犹"). Chapter 6 concludes and discusses the contents, achievements and methods of the collation in DuShu ZaZhi from the explanation of some arbitrary modification of ancient books and the correction of the explanation given by the forerunners with Yan Shigu's explanation on Honshu as an illustration.
