Gao Exegetical Term Study

Textual exegesis terms are specific terms in the traditional critical interpretation of ancient tests, which originated from the previous Qin dynasty and were fully developed during the two Han dynasties. These terms are an important aspect of the study of the critical interpretation of ancient tests. Based on GaoYou's explanations in the three extant c\assies:LUShiChunQiu HuaiNanZi ZhanGuoCe, this thesis includes many extensive and deep quantitative studies and qualitative studies of the terms used by Gao You.Firstly, this thesis supplies a general introduction to Textual exegesis terms including their nature, origin, developed and so on; Secondly, it briefly introduces data about Gao You's life, the way in which a disciple received training in a specific school and works etc; Finally, it gives range and approaches of the studies in it.This is the main part. We classify the sixty terms used by Gao You into seven categories: collation,phonetic, meaning explication, showing function words, showing rhetoric words, leave the question open and recommend different formulation. In the category of explication, the terms are classified three groups: the ones explicating a word, the ones explicating a sentence, the ones explicating an expression. In order to make the conclusion reliable, we exactly and quantitatively sum up the frequency of the terms each category emerging in the three books above respectively, and furthermore do qualitative analysis.After some studies, we think Gao You was one of the Textual exegesis scholar who used the most terms during Han dynasty, and whose term system was perfect. Not only was the amount of his terms fabulously large, but they covered all kinds, and each kind of the terms was correlatively used in different ways. So we think his terms were perfect in function and worth studying. In this thesis, we concretely inquired into three questions: "the function of'DuWei(Yue)'and 'DuRu(Ruo)'", "to differentiate the explanatory note in HuaiNanZi, which produced by Gao You and XuShen" and "the standardization of Textual Exegesis terms". Integrating GaoYou's using in this thesis we deeply discussed thefunction of"DuWei(Yue)'and 'DuRu(Ruo)'", furthermore, we tried to differentiate the explanatory note in HuaiNanZi that produced by XuShen from GaoYou's.By studying his terms we found it was extremely necessary to standardize Textual Exegesis terms. In order to do this, the norms are the first to be worded out. The main norm to follow is the univocal characteristic, and all is guided by the theory of the modern linguistics. Such is the principle and under it we pay attention to sorting out and using extant terms and creating new terms.
