This thesis consists of eight parts, including a preface, six chapters, and a conclusion. The main subject of this thesis is the effect of literary groups in the development of Nan Dynasties literature. From this point of view, the concept, types, organization, and activities of literary groups are discussed. And then, based on one of the most important activities of literary groups, the relationship between literary groups and Nan Dynasties literature is studied.Preface chiefly consists of two parts: the first part includes: (1) the elaboration on the value and meaning of the research; (2) a historical and current study of literary groups in Nan Dynasties; (3) the research method and construction of this thesis. The second part includes: (1) a definition of literary group. In this section, a more explicit definition of literary group is presented by a comparison with literary school and literati group. (2) a brief account of development of literary group. It is divided into four historical periods: the pre-Qin days, the two-Hans, Wei and Jin Dynasties, and South and North Dynasties. (3) an analyses on the important factors which affect the development of literary group. These three factors are the situation of social politics and economics, the situation of cultural, and situation of literature's development.Chapter 1: The literary groups in Nan Dynasties. In this chapter, literary groups in Nan Dynasties are divided into three types. They are family literary groups, literary groups consisting of officials, and literary groups leaded by imperial members. According to the three types, some introductions are carried out, which involve the development process of literary groups, the situation of main members, and their common literary ideas and activities.Chapter 2: The relationship between literary groups and Nan Dynasties politics. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the effect of Nan Dynasties politics on literary groups in Nan Dynasties. This kind of relationship is discussed from three angles. They are: (1) The comparison of aristocrats and empire has a process from strong to weak. This process is also the same process of the development of literary groups in Nan Dynasties. (2) There were four periods in Nan Dynasties which were good in politics and economy. In these four periods, the literary groups were very strong. (3) The cruel struggles in emperor family were the main reason of literary groups' ending. The last conclusion is that the literary groups in Nan Dynasties were firstly and simultaneously political groups. Mass participation of literary activities. From the literary point of view, this is the most important characteristics of literary groups in Nan Dynasties.Chapter 3: the relationship between literary groups and aristocrats. Firstly, the members of Nan Dynasties literary groups mostly are from aristocrat, so these literary groups present many features of privileged stratum. Secondly, the history of aristocrat is talked. Thirdly, the aristocrat characteristics of literary groups are discussed.Chapter 4: mass participation of literary activities. From the literary point of view, this is the most important characteristics of literary groups in Nan Dynasties. Firstly, this kind of activities is to make books in literary groups. Secondly, the most important kind of activities is literary creation.Chapter 5: the effect of literary group on literature development. This chapter is divided into three parts. Firstly, the important role of Xie family in the development of mountain and water pomes is discussed. Secondly, we talked about the relationship between Xiaoziliang literary group and Yongming poems. Thirdly, is the distributes of Xiaogang literary group to palace poems.Chapter 6: There two sections in this chapter. In the first section, two main features of development of Nan Dynasties' literature are discussed, which include pursuit of new ideas in literary creation and pursuit of summation in literary theories. In the second section, the relationship between Nan Dynasties' literary groups and these two features is discussed. The conclusions are: in the process of literary creation, the literary groups played a leading role; in the process of summation of literary theories, the literary groups' role were also very important.Concluding remarks: This section is to sum up the whole thesis, and advance some important problems which are solved in this thesis. These problems are definition, classifying, characteristics of Nan Dynasties' literary groups, and the last one, the relationship between Nan Dynasties' and Nan Dynasties literature.
