During the transformative period of English literature, the Bloomsbury Group highlights its specific position as the beginning of modernism. The transformative position of its criticism from traditional to modern one has significant meanings. This essay is based on Virginia Woolf,E.M.Forster and Lytton Strachey and combined with the historical and theoretical background of the Victorian period, through which the essay analyzes the traditional elements in Bloomsbury’s modern awareness, and establishes the goal to clarify its idea on literature and literature criticism. The essay dissects the colliding and collection of the traditional and modern aspects with each other. With pointing out the negation and rebellion of the Bloomsbury Group’s literature criticism as to that of the elder generation, and the inheritance as to that of the romanticism and the ancient Greek, the essay gets the perspective to the literature criticism of the Bloomsbury Group.
