The Study Of Chongniu In Middle Chinese

The study of chongniu is one of the most important unfinished problems in Chinese historical phonology. On the base of former studies, analyzing six different materials, this dissertation try to give some own explanations on this problem.This dissertation has the following characteristics:1. Using the computer database, on which the comprehensiveness and accuracy of this study was much better than the previous ones through traditional method with paper cards.2. Comparing fanqie data in the database with computer program .The data in the database were compared with the data of Guangyun (《廣韻》) , which was used as a reference. When comparing the pronunciation of the words, special attention is paid to the phenomenon of additional pronunciation. Aiming at the Chongniu Fanqie, certain complementary rules are raised on the base of Shao's three essential comparative rules.3. Using the structural method to analyze all fanqie shangzi (反切上字) and fanqie xiazi (反切下字) systematically. The method includes three aspects: the analysis on total trends, the peculiar Fanqie and Chongniu in couple, Consequently, four basic characteristics are found.4. Trying to explain the peculiar Fanqie in six different materials.
