The Variorums Of Classification Of Funeral Objects Written Down On Warring States Qiance

Qiance is a kind of bamboo slips that were used in ancient funerals to record funeral objects, which would be buried with the dead. Since 1950s, archeologists have discovered about 60 batches of bamboo slips of this kind in tombs ranging from Dong Zhou Dynasty to Han and Jin Dynasty. Fourteen batches belong to Warring States, in which seven batches have been officially proclaimed and they came from the Wulipai Tomb .406, the Yangtianhu Tomb.25, the Changtaiguan Tomb.1, the Wangshan Tomb.2, the Baoshan Tomb.2, the Caojiagang Tomb.5 and the Tomb of Marquis Yi of state Zeng . Names and quantity of such objects as horse and wagon instrument, food cases, weapons, musical instruments, food, finery and flags etc. were recorded on Qiance. Adequate research has been done on them by the academic, but no one has comprehensive studied them by a method of classification. Based on past and present study, this dissertation, after absorbing the latest academic fruit, will make use of paleographical, archaeological methods to classify funeral objects recorded on these seven bathes comprehensively.There are two parts in this dissertation: introduction and text. Introduction section will define Qiance, Fengshu (賵書) and Mingwu (名物), give general descriptions about how Warring Time Qiance has been discovered and studied, and explain the great contributions the methods, which are used in this dissertation, and Qiance make to critical interpretation of past texts. According to the function of the funeral objects recorded on these seven batches, the text classifies them into 11 categories and they are food cases, water utensil, wine containers, musical instruments, horse and wagon instruments, weapons, flags, finery, foods, table and matting, and sundries. Under every category there are specific items to classify this category. For every funeral object, previous academic study is collected firstly and then the dissertation decides what to accept or reject by the author's critical evaluation. Meanwhile the author's academic acquisition is added. If what Qiance records correspond with funeral objects, the author will tries to add relative pictures to this dissertation for intuitionistic impression.The dissertation bring forward some new viewpoints on some aspects, for example,"(?)","鼙","(?)","(?)","(?)","(?)","駽","驍","(?) In addition to this, because of the author's limitedness, the dissertation may contain incorrect classification of funeral objects and may accept incorrect comments. So the author is always expecting critical suggestion from other experts.
