Structure And Features Of Integrity Mind For Chinese People

As an important part for personal quality, integrity is the footstone for economic development and social progress. Since ancient time, Chinese people have regarded integrity as a virtue as well as the norm of morality..At present, we are in an important period for economy and society transformation, and constructing a harmonious society, and we should pay great attention to integrity. In recent years, the academic circle has made much favorable discussion on integrity in many fields so as to provide scientific information and theoretical reference for integrity construction in China. However, integrity, as a complicated social and mental phenomenon, is affected by many factors and variables. Seeing from existing integrity research, the following features may be found: more unitary discussion and less systematic research; more theoretical investigation and less practical research; more research on specific subjects and less attention on comprehensive views; more research on social norm and less research on mental features and, especially, lacking deep research combining the ancient and modern times and based on indigenous culture and combining history and logic.This research has following features: focusing on indigenous psychology; adopting method of personality research; highlighting integration of history and logic; choosing subjects with multiple levels; comprehensive using various research methods and statistical techniques, such as lexical hypothesis, questionnaire, document analysis, factor analysis, etc; comprehensive and systematic revealing structure and features of integrity mind for Chinese people and discussing basic mental structure and features for governing integrity actions.The whole research is divided into 6 parts, including: Concluding the historical chain of development and evolution for traditional Chinese integrity mind and revealing basic features; adopting the lexis research to compile term list of integrity for ancient and modern Chinese people; using term list of integrity to implement questionnaire and discussing structure of integrity mind for ancient and modern Chinese people; carrying out comparison between ancient and modern times and analyzing features of stability and development for structures of integrity mind for Chinese people; revealing features of integrity mind for modern Chinese people with different gender, education background, occupation and age through questionnaire and statistical analysis; and discussing related problems on this research and putting forward pertinent suggestions on integrity education.To sum up, we have made following conclusions:(1) Traditional Chinese integrity mind appeared before the Spring and Autumn period; grew up between the Spring and Autumn period to the Warring States period; achieved ethic during the Qin-Han period; had a strong tendency to philosophy during Song and Ming period and took to practicality during Ming and Qing period. In general, traditional Chinese integrity mind are featured by strong. tendency of self-discipline, strong emotion and unilateral moral obligation.(2) Term list of integrity for ancient and modern Chinese people based on lexical method have been checked to have good credibility and efficiency.(3) The positive aspects of structure of integrity mind for ancient Chinese people consist of 5 dimensions: Justice, respect, truth, benevolence, courage, and the negative aspects consist of 4 dimensions: Trickiness, fraud, absurdness and evil.(4) The positive aspects of structure of integrity mind for modern Chinese people consist of 4 dimensions: prudence, amicability, friendliness and impartiality and the negative aspects consist of 4 dimensions: falsity, egoism, sophistication, and insincerity.(5) The structure of integrity mind for modern Chinese people is featured by being objective, other-oriented, and self-oriented, and well corresponds to "Big Seven" Chinese personality structure and correctly reflects features of integrity mind for Chinese people.(6) The structure of integrity mind for Chinese people is characterized by stability and development. In positive aspects of integrity mind for ancient and modern Chinese people, "justice" and "amenity", "respect" and "preciseness", "truth" and "impartiality", "benevolence" and "friendliness" correlate to each other; and in negative aspects, the coincidence relation among dimensions is not clear and these dimensions have impact on each other. The structure of integrity mind for ancient Chinese people has persistent and deep impact on the structure of integrity mind for modern Chinese people. With economic and social development, the structure of integrity mind for modern Chinese people has changed a lot.(7) In general, the stucture of integrity mind for Chinese people tends to be positive. The order of all sub-dimensions is defined as follows: falsity=insincerity＜selfishness＜sophistication＜impartiality＜amicability＜friendliness< prudence(8) The structure of integrity mind for Chinese people varies with gender, education background, occupation and age. For gender, the female prefer to the simple and kind integrity while the male are easily affected by the negative mind; for education, the understanding of integrity depends on the education background, and the people graduated from elementary schools have more complex and even inconsistent structure of integrity mind than those who receive higher education; for occupation, civil servants and company employees has a more obvious integrity mind than countrymen; while the integrity level of students intervenes between them; for age, the people aged below 20 obviously differ from others in the aspects of positive or negative tendency and sub-dimensions.The theoretic value and realistic significance of this research lie in that: (1) researching the integrity from the view of individual personality and character, thus extending the research field, and enriching the meaning of integrity; (2) making systematic and deep research on integrity mind for Chinese people in the view of indigenous culture, further improving the understanding of common development rules and basic features for integrity in the background of Chinese culture, and promoting the development of integrity theory research; (3) making deep research on integrity mind factors, disclosing the endogenous system of integrity formation, helping people build up the integrity concept, finding out the focus of contemporary integrity construction, and providing theoretic basis; (4) analyzing the structure of integrity mind for Chinese people, and being significant for China to reconstruct the integrity value system and to carry out the integrity construction during the period of economy and society transformation.This research makes some progress and innovations in the following aspects: (1) making preliminary research and disclosure about the structure and features of integrity mind for Chinese people, emphasizing on positive and negative tendencies to analyze the structure of integrity mind for Chinese people; (2) preparing the Questionnaire on Integrity Mind for Chinese People in accordance with the criteria of psychological testing, basically solving the problem of testing tool about the structure of integrity mind for Chinese people; (3) the questionnaire survey combines the self-assessment and Hetero-assessment to reveal both subjective and objective integrity minds of individuals and to impersonally disclose the structure of integrity mind for Chinese people; (4) focusing on the combination between the history and the logic in the research, making dynamic comparison analysis which discloses more complete, more systematic and deeper contents than the static study; (5) making the combination between the empirical study and theoretic analysis to provide new thoughts for integrity mind research for Chinese people, especially the application of lexical hypothesis, document analysis and other statistic methods.Based on the conclusions of the research, this research also puts forward the following suggestions: to strengthen the education of integrity mind for Chinese people, we should combine the tradition education and modern education, unify self-discipline and the hetero-discipline, carry out both encouragement and the punishment, and promote the mutual progress of the individual and the society.
