The Research On The Directivity Of One-syllable Action Verbs In Modern Chinese

According to the thinking of teaching, adopting the research method of combining the meaning with the form, using the theory and research achievements of Functional Cognitive Grammar for reference, the paper provides a detailed and systematical research on the directivity of one—syllable action verbs in Modern Chinese.The"directivity"of action verb to study is a semanteme which is embodied in the concept meaning of word. Basing on the understanding of the direction of action, this article establishes a relatively integral meaning system of the"directivity"of one-syllable action verbs in Modern Chinese. On base of this system, this article gives a overall illustration about syntactic forms when the meaning of"directivity"is expressed."Directional Verb"acting as complement is the best syntactic means. Because of the"verb-Directional Verb"construction has a real effect on syntactic structure, this article focuses on it. Different verbs have different representation, although they all make use of the"verb-Directional Verb"construction. The reason is their different"directivity".For the action verbs which have the same"directivity"with certain"Directional Verb", they have different relations with different"Directional Verbs". When the same action verb cooperates with different"Directional Verb", there are two kinds of constructions. One is"the expression of same direction", another is"the expression of different direction".The constructions of"the expression of same direction"and"the expression of different direction"are the syntactic forms when the meaning of"directivity"is expressed. The action verb without"Directional Verb"isn't"the expression of directivity". Because the construction of"the expression of same direction"and the single action verb express the meaning of"inner directivity", their syntactic representations are same. The construction of"the expression of different direction"expresses the meaning of"outer directivity", so its syntactic representation is different with the former two.In the end, this article illustrates the relation between action verb and"Directional Verb"when the"verb- Directional Verb"construction expresses the meaning of direction. For action verb,"the degree of space freedom"is an important reference. For"Directional Verb", the demand of space elements is important when the meaning of"directivity"is formed. On base of the whole research,this article brings forward some suggestions about the teaching of"Directional Verb".
