Firstly this paper discribes and comments on the achievements of Verb-direction construction deeply in nearly 100 years.We sort out the brilliant ones and point out the deficiency of the studies. Based on the discription and comments,the study of Verb-direction construction is devided into synchronic and diachronic aspects. This paper is established in the synchronic discription and the dynamic research can actually be considered as the explanation for the characteristics reflected in the dynamic research.Therefore,this paper is entitled "modern Chinese research in Verb-direction construction "."Directional verbs after a verb " (q) is a key factor to restrict and influence Verb-direction construction, thus in the synchronic study, Based on the study of the grammatical meanings and characters of"q",the paper reveals the character of Verb-direction construction and makes a definite scope of Verb-directionconstruction. in the diachronic study,we study the diachronic changes of Verb-direction construction in modern Chinese,which also illustrates that the grammaticalization of q is an important factor for formation and development of Verb-direction construction in modern Chinese. Therefore ,that can be considered as the explanation for the characteristics reflected in the dynamic research.We use various research approaches such as three grammatical dimensions,semanticorientation,cognitive grammar, grammaticalization, Valency and so on. The paper is a combination between syntactic and semantic research, description and interpretation, synchronic and diachronic study and it's a comprehensive and in-depth analysis and discussion on Verb-direction construction.
