Probe Into Chinese Areas, The Direction Of The Verb

Applying the related theories of cognitive linguistics, and mainly on the basis of Usage of Chinese Verb's Dictionary, the dissertation investigates comprehensively the direction category of directional verbs. The main contents of the dissertation can be summarized as below:Chapter 1 is the introduction part, which firstly reviews the predecessor's research results, then puts forword this thesis and defines the research scope and significance. The research of the task will be helpful for directional complement teaching when we teach Chinese as a foreign language.Chapter 2 is to introduce the theory basis, researching means and language material related to the research.(1) Verbs' system theory: It believes that the verbs' system is a continuous system in which there is a transition from the motional verb which is in center place to other poles(state verb and change verb). And it also thinks that the displacement verb is a kind of verb which has the most action characters. so, we will take the displacement verb as a breach.(2) Glossarilization theory: It believes that during the process of glossarilization, some of the conceptional elements will incorporate and go into inside of the verb. such as"direction".(3) Related theories of displacement verbs: It mainly puts forward displacement event frame and conceptual structure elements of which: Trajector, Start, Path, End and motion. By metaphorically extending of image schema, some events of abstract meaning field, such as possession, communication and transfer, can be understood.(4) Directional system theory: The space and its directional system in our dissertation include: physical space, social space, mental space and numeral space.Then the dissertation puts forward a syntactic slot(Xiang/Wang+location noun./orientation noun+V)which is to ascertain directional verbs.At last, we set the standard of division mainly according to the combination of the form and the meaning, and get the results by analysing meaning's element of verbs and the preposition phrase which denoting direction before verbs.Chapter 3 is the research results. Firstly, We analyze the trend verbs again from cognitive aspects and has the results as below:Shang/Shang lai/Shang qu/Qi/Qi lai:Shang xiangXia/Xia lai/Xia qu:Xia xiangJin/jin lai/Jin qu:Nei xiangChu/Chu lai/Chu qu:Wai xiangGuo lai/Guo qu: Wangfu xiangThen we divide directional verbs into 8 categories, that is Qian xiang, Hou xiang, Wangfu xiang, Shang xiang, Xia xiang, Nei xiang, Wai xiang and Duo xiang.At last we summarize the combination rules of directional verbs and trend verbs in some scope.Chapter 4 is the cognization of Chinese directional verbs. By review the meaning of different kind of directional verbs, we find that they accord with the antetype domino effect of verbs' meaning and the theory of family resemblances. At the same time we conclude some characters of verbs' Direction, there are some relationships between verbs' direction and people's cognitive level. And we also find that some verbs need form marks to outstand their direction and some don't need.In the end, we conclude the shortage of the dissertation and view the future researches.
