Based on the researches into the beliefs and folk music and dance in the selected places in the historically-formed minority area of Tibetan-Yi Corridor, the thesis tries to explore the survival conditions of the music and dance in different cultural levels, as well as their relation with the natural and cultural environment in which they developed. With the ethnomusicological field work, the research method is based on the first-hand materials, making a comprehensive use of the theories and methodologies of the concerned disciplines and a full understanding of the inter-relation between the geographic elements and the music and dance in view of the results of the regional studies.Through the project, the author has realized it is a fundamental characteristic of the Tibetan-Yi Corridor music and dance culture that beliefs, folklore, rituals, and music and dance are unseparatable. Beliefs and folklore are expressed as rituals and rituals must go with music and dance. Thus music and dance as a part of the rituals become the expression of beliefs and folk cultures. Music and dance are therefore no longer a pure art of music and dance, but artistic cultural phenomena with an important social function. The form, conception and action of music and dance together construct the comprehensive whole of the ritual music and dance culture of the ethnic groups, which penetrate the culture of the entire Corridor. This is why, with its typical representativity, I chose it as the object for my observation and study of the ethical music and dance. The investigative materials together with my analysis also provide the empirical and theoretical basis for the protection of the intangible cultural heritage.
