"Shuo" Being Brilliant And Cheating

"Shuo"Style in Pre-Qin discussed in this paper is a kind of style, that the main contents are the character's language and correlative plots appeared in Chinese pre-Qin. Differed with the dialogue and quotation style emphasized"speech", it's a narrative style containing language and plot. It's the earliest text form of narrative style in Chinese ancient narrative tradition, and it engenders the basic of subsequent artistry narration segments in histo-biographical prose, such as Tso Chuan and Shi Ji. It's also the text source of the late classical Chinese fiction.But there are only a few pursuers who understood the Pre-Qin prose by the narrative character of style structure for a long time, and in this article, this angle of view is used in studding this earliest narrative text, with the method of"casting back the origin and following the development, explaining the appellation and uncovering its meaning, choosing the text and confirming it typical form and summing up its speciality and the law"(Liu Xie), founded on the anciently literature. In Chinese literary criticism,"Shuo"Style after the Tang Dynasty is a kind of analytic prose which differs from the"Shuo"Style in Pre-Qin discussed in this paper.Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze some closer concepts currently used by critics, and some obscure view about"Shuo"Style in Wei-Jin Era , by casting back the original meaning of"shuo"in Pre-Qin, and decide to use the word"shuo"as this kind of narrative-language prose in Pre-Qin and newly defines the"Shuo"Style text of sorted from Wei-Jin Era. There are comparatively clear process of"Shuo"Style in Pre-Qin when it comes into being, it's an amalgamation formed by record in writing and oral communication tradition, and has a strong influence on the late histo-biographical prose, such as Tso Chuan and Shi Ji, especially the literary narration parts within. The number of this kind of style was abundant in Pre-Qin, and we can still find them in Guo-yu, Zhan-guo-ce, Chunqiu Shiyu, Book of Warring-States Strategic Advisors and some Zhu-zi Works presently. The"narration-language-narration"structure is its basic character, and"language"has been transferred as an essential plot of the whole text from the noted literature, impelling the development of the event. It has the historic events as the main content and has abundant characteristics in its deep meaning. The most far-reaching influence of"Shuo"Style in Pre-Qin is its narration and fiction. It developed and formed its peculiarity in the character, narrative perspective, scene representation, expression skill and character language. Especially the fiction in"Shuo"Style, including the whole event and the detail, becomes the source of the fiction as a literary genre.This dissertation takes Lu Ji's words that"Shuo is brilliant and cheating"as the conclusion to sum up the characteristics of"Shuo"Style in Pre-Qin which engenders the text tradition in Chinese fiction for its narrative and fictional character.
