Until now, the researches on ancient Chinese color-related terms have been only confined to the individual examination a few words' meaning or the interpretation of common words in cultural respect. Hence, this paper pays more attention to the all-round study on the family of Black color terms of ancient Chinese language.After thorough investigation, around 151 words in the family of Black color terms have been singled out from ancient Chinese language pool, including 80 single-syllable words, 45 double-syllable words, 24 three-syllable words and 2 four-syllable words. And then these words are divided into 8 categories according to the origin of meaning. The elaborate explanation is respectively given to the words under the principle of connecting cultural and semantic interpretation, diachronic and synchronic study. This research mainly figures out the character of naming, the meaning and the process of semantic formation, the cultural implication, as well as the common and individual characteristic of each mate of the Black color terms' family.This paper is divided into 3 parts: Part I is an introduction to the present research situation; Part II mainly deals with the explanation of the Black color terms in turn, including pure phrase and complex words; Part III is comprehensive analysis. Based on the preceding two parts, some theoretical issues are involved in this part, including the semantic and lexical characteristic of the black color terms and the way of elaborate explanation.
