The goal of human learning is to solve various problems faced in the current or future life, and learning is a problem-solving process in essence. Therefore, an important goal of education is to cultivate a successful problem-solver, and to help learners effectively solve the problems at work or in study by training learners' abilities to analyze and solve problems, and to think creatively. From this perspective, it is the purpose of this dissertation to find out how to use the computer system to support learning, and to find out a new approach to constructing a framework of learning support system. The dissertation discusses and analyzes the theoretical foundation of Learning Performance Support System's Problem Base (LPSS-PB) from the concept analyses and research framework, learning and problem-solving related research in the psychology, and the designing principles of multimedia learning support system. Then on the basis of the problem-solving characteristics and associated support elements, the dissertation gradually studies the various aspects of constructing LPSS-PB, including generation strategy, problem classification strategy, problem organization strategy. The dissertation also discusses the construction of external environment, including LPSS-PB designing ideas, supporting mechanisms, as well as the functional elements of the system. The dissertation also designs five kinds of problem-oriented learning support models, problem representation strategies and the content presentation strategies.The dissertation is divided into six chapters:Chapter 1 introduces the value and necessity of the research on LPSS-PB. By using the literature research methods and systems analysis method, the author discusses the status and trends in the current learning support and problem base research, identifies the thesis research and main contents.Chapter 2 discusses the theoretical basis and the related research of LPSS-PB. Based on the analysis of the meaning of learning and learning support, technical supporting learning features and functions, the author expounds the research dimension of problem-based learning support. From the perspective of problem solving psychology, the author analyzes the support elements and theoretical basis to train learner's problem-solving ability. The design principles of using computer technology to support learning have also been analyzed. Chapter 3 focuses on the issue of construction strategies of LPSS-PB. The key design is the problem's organization, that is, problem designing and reasonable framework of relevant disciplines. Generally speaking, constructing problem needs the strategies of problem generating strategy, problem classification strategy and problem organization strategy.Chapter 4 studies the overall structure of the system. A complete LPSS-PB should include supporting database itself, as well as the external learning environment constructed with the problem data base. The dissertation focuses on learning support elements, learning support mechanisms, and content presentation strategies. The dissertation also analyzed various learning support models, including guided learning model, inquisitive learning model, operating learning model, case-based learning and reflective learning model. The support of each mode and content presentation strategies has been analyzed in detail...Chapter 5 is a case study of LPSS-PB. In this chapter, the author selected instructional design as a case, focusing on the designing of instructional design problems. The author has designed a functional model and framework for the problem base system, and discussed the problem design, guiding mechanism, and other areas of learning support for the system design. Finally, the question effectiveness in the case has been evaluated.The final chapter provides a summary, and discusses the inadequacy of the study and the author' plan for further research on the topic.
