Ling Chih-lung, "shi Ji Lin

The Historical Records(Shiji), written by Sima Qian 2000 years ago, has had different editions now through copying and pressing in history. These editions differ from each other in the use of different words. It is a basic task to construct the edition system of The Historical Records(Shiji) and collate the differences of the words. The edition of the Aggregation of criticism on The Historical Records (Shiji Pinglin), which was pressed by Ling Zhilong in the fourth year of Wanli Ming Dynasty, has played an important role in the edition history of The Historical Records and has exerted big effects in the later ages. People were interested only in the collected criticisms on The Historical Records but the previous studies on the Shiji Pinglin edition were not sufficient. So it is necessary to continue the study on this edition. This paper tries to point out the merits and shortcomings of the Shiji Pinglin edition by emendating the words in it and comparing it with Wangliang edition, the master copy, in order to offer a reference to the collation on The Historical Records (Shiji).This paper consists of two parts: the first part is the introduction and edition study; the second part is the collation on words.The first part studies the life and works of Ling Zhilong, the author of Shiji Pinglin, and analyses its characteristic of collecting lots of criticisms on The Historical Records. By comparing it with Wang Liang edition, this paper points out the achievements and deficiencies of its emendation, and shows its influence and the use in the later ages.The second part is the collation of words in the Shiji Pinglin edition. Through collating it with the punctuated edition pressed by Zhonghua-shuju Publishing House, and referring to the other information, this paper analyses the words in Shiji Pinglin edition and amends some mistakes in the Zhonghua-shuju edition.
