Since the Cultural Revolution, as traditional poems, metrical poems have not only been rapidly reviving, but also showing their extraordinary splendor. It is necessary to do research on the situation, development, problems and prospects of these poems. The production of metrical poems is not only the guarantee for the quality of their works, but also the foundation and key for their survival and development. Therefore, it is all the more necessary to research it. However, there has not yet been any work of systematic and comprehensive research on the production of metrical poems since the Cultural Revolution in China, while this is exactly the feature of this thesis. As the overview of the Chinese metrical poems after the Cultural Revolution, the first chapter of this thesis has chiefly discussed the origin, development, theory and problems of contemporary metrical poems as well as the factors that prevent metrical poems from developing further, to indicate that contemporary poems have the same origin as Chinese traditional poems, as well as development, theoretical bottlenecks, problems and restrictions of contemporary metrical poems. The second chapter has summarized the status quos of the production of metrical poems after the Cultural Revolution, and discussed the generalization of the associations and journals producing contemporary metrical poems, the universalization of producers and the diversification of the contents of production, to indicate that various styles of famous poets are propelling the revival and development of metrical poems, and numerous newly-rising outstanding poets are displaying the hopes and futures of metrical poems. The third chapter has exposed the problems that affect the quality of works in the production of contemporary metrical poems, and derived the following problems through summarization: There are more and more modern words in the poems; there are more and more elements of prose or argumentative essay in the poems; the poems are written more and more arbitrarily. This indicates that most of these works are of low quality as well as too conceptual and similar to each other, and they are short of fresh opinions and poetic charms. This is extremely detrimental to the development of metrical poems. The fourth chapter has researched the skill-related problems in the production of contemporary metrical poems, starting from such aspects as form, rhetoric, rhythm and couplet, to indicate that producers of metrical poems must work hard at relevant skills in order to display the beauty of couplet, symmetry, rhythm and intricacy of these poems; otherwise, the quality of their works will be affected and the artistic charms of their metrical poems will be weakened.
