Feng Zikai is a famous modern writer, caricaturist, translator and educator of our country. His art educational achievements are mainly embodied in two aspects, that is, school art education and social art education. Present research on Feng Zikai focuses on his accomplishment in literature and caricature creation, but in his art educational thoughts, the study is comparatively weak, superficial and lack of system. Based on previous research, this thesis aims at making a further study of Feng Zikai's art educational thoughts with the method of history and theories.Under the guidance of pedagogical theories, this thesis is to make a systematic comb of Feng Zikai's school educational thoughts from the aspects of educational aim, educational principles, teaching methods and teachers'qualities and so on. Feng Zikai's art educational aim of cultivatiing"artistic heart"; his educational principles such as combination of art education and children's lives, his teaching methods of advocating painting from life, opposing copy and so on; and his emphasis on several aspects such as art teachers'character cultivation and cordial educational heart, all those show the uniqueness in the historical situation. His social art education aims at improving populace's depressed fortune through art education. In accordance with the reality of populace's aesthetic taste, aesthetic ability and living circumstances, Feng Zikai puts forth art enlightenment strategy towards populace by"art enthusiasts", makes use of popular"objective"and"meaning added"art, and practical handicrafts and fork art which common people have greatest chance to get in touch to educate populace, which had practical meaning at that time.Feng Zikai's art educational thoughts absorb and draw on the useful experiences from his translating and introducing western art educational thoughts, base on his Confucius and Buddhism thoughts, and develop in accordance with practical problems existing at that time, which have deepened and enriched modern Chinese art educational thoughts, and have practical meaning for current basic educational course reform and concept of character education.
