Study On The Cultural Values And Cultural Hegemony Of The US

With only 200 years of its making of a nation, the US soon leaped into world's number one powerful country. Proved that her advantages to success depends on the strong military, political and economic strengths, in conjunction with cultural hegemony. Accordingly, the empire of the US culture to the world was established. From various problems of the international relationships nowadays, it can be found that, culture has been regarded as an important "soft" strength in international relationships. A nation's spiritual characteristics would exist forever with the continuous admiration of its cultural inheritance. A powerful nation consists in not only the excellent military, political and economic superiority, her forceful cultural dissemination possess an indispensable impetus to rise peacefully. The US government attains the position of the world overlord through high technology military forces, thus leads the global economical trends, seizes the world's pulsation. However, the devoting dissemination of her culture and diplomacy has been faced with unprecedented crisis. Facing the intensified conflicts between civilizations and the streams, the U.S. government necessitates to examine her strategies of diplomacy and the policies for cultural values.Furthermore, the U.S.A. disseminates her cultural values all over the world and spreads her cultural thinking through exports of merchandise. Facing the powerful penetration and intrusion of American culture, other nations raise alerts to guard their own culture and traditions to conserve the failing culture. This thesis will firstly conduct a general research on the values of culture and cultural hegemony; secondly introduce the formation background and development progress of the U.S. culture, and the strengths and weaknesses of her values of culture, consequently, study the development and practices of American cultural hegemony in the diverse age; lastly advise the approaches and strategies that the Chinese government should take when facing threats from American culture hegemony.
