Chinese Dialect Adjective Overlap

The reduplication in Chinese is an important grammar means.This dissertation is based on a discussion about the adjective reduplication in the Chinese dialects in order to improve the research about reduplication.These forms are divided into three types.They are simplex type,including AA, AAA,AABB,ABAB,AXBAXB,AXYAXY,ABCABC,expanded type,including ABAC,AAB,ABB,and affixed type,including XAA,XAYA,AXA,AXYA,AAXBB,ABXAB,AXAB,ABXB,AAXB,AXBB,AAX,AAXY,AXX,AYXX,AYXXX(X)(X).The degree of adjective become stronger or weaker by reduplication.And the adjective become more vivid.The adjective reduplication can act as all kinds of syntactic elements,mainly as predicate,adnominal,adverbial and complement.The degrees are different between basic forms and reduplicative forms.The different reduplicative forms of one adjective have different quantity.Three reduplicative types exist in ten dialect districts.But the distribution of every form isn't equal.The scope in area and frequency in using of these reduplicative forms are different.There are several implicational universals between some forms.The adjective reduplication of the Chinese dialects has some characteristics,which are different from mandarin in form,semantics and syntax.The adjective reduplication also exists in other sub-famillies in Sino-Tibetan,and it is the general character of Sino-Tibetan.
