Yeosu She Then Adjective Overlap

This dissertation studies structure form,phonetic form,grammatical function and meaning of Lishui SHE dialect's adjective reduplication in the hope of a better comprehension of Lishui SHE dialect's adjective reduplication and the further study of SHE dialect's grammar. The dissertation has seven sections with more than 80,000 characters. The introduction mainly introduces the research object, research significance, research methods and explain the source of language material and examples.The first chapter gives a commentary of adjective reduplication of SHE dialect and Han language. The research of SHE dialect is inadequate because for a long time people believe that SHE dialect is a kind of Chinese Hakka dialects. Even less is adjective reduplication. Adjective reduplication of Han language is one of important subjects of Han language's grammatical research. The fruitful research results of this subjects in Modern Han language and dialects' grammar and commentary made by the research in structure form,phonetic form,grammatical function and meaning contribute as a great consult to our research in Adjective Reduplication of Lishui SHE dialect.The second chapter elaborately describes 14 reduplication forms of adjectives of Lishui SHE dialect: AAadjective,AAAA adjective,AXX adjective,AABB adjective,ABB adjective,ABAB adjective,AAB adjective,BABA adjective,BBA adjective,AAB adjective,ABXX adjective, ABAC adjective and XAA adjective. On the one hand, the dissertation analyzes reduplication conditions for every reduplication form in details, it also enumerates words of each reduplication form on the other hand. The dissertation also uses comparative method to compare AA adjective with AXX adjective in four research areas and finds subtle differences in words of SHE adjective reduplication among different areas in Lishui district. As an island-distributing language, the subtle diferences are quite normal.The third chapter describes phonetic form of Lishui SHE dialect's adjective reduplication and analyzes its changing regulation of tone and phonetic rhythm. In the situation of tone changing, AA adjective, AAAA adjective, AXX adjective, AABB adjective, ABB adjective and AAB adjective will have changing tone by compare with basic form. On the one hand, the dissertation analyzes concretely the conditions for tone changing of adjective reduplication and believes there will be no tone changing in reduplication of strong-form adjectives and there are tone changing and non-tone changing in some reduplication forms with different phonetic forms embodying different degree implication and emotional coloring. On the other hand, it summarizes tone changing regulation of reduplication and considers tone changing is the most important method of transformation reduplication. Other tone changing regulation is equal to diminutive changing except that the first A in AA adjectives turns into 55. The dissertation also compares tune changing difference of AA adjectives with those of verbs,adverbs and quantifiers of same tones and same forms and believes that tone changing of AA adjective is a kind of grammatical tone changing. In term of syllabic rhythm, every reduplication form has its own rhythm mode, but syllabic rhythm of all reduplication will have changes in order to emphasize. Except ABAB adjective, people often prolong and read loud the first syllable to emphasize. The long it takes and the sounder it reads, the more exaggerative it is.In the forth chapter, the dissertation reveal grammatical function of Lishui SHE dialect's adjective reduplication with its composition function and the ability of serving as syntax part. In term of composition function, when an adjective is turned into a form of reduplication, its grammatical meaning changes as well as its composition function. On the one hand, they can not combine themselves freely with interrogative pronouns, degree adverbs and negative words, because there are more limits; on the other hand, it becomes more freely to combine themselves with such demonstrative pronouns as "this" and "that". As for the ability of serving as syntax part, adjective reduplication strengthens its ability of being adverbial modifier. Compared with modern Han language, the composition function and the ability of serving as syntax part of Lishui SHE dialect's adjective reduplication is stronger, which is embodied by reduplication's relationship with auxiliary words, its relationship with such demonstrative pronouns as "this" and "that" and its relationship with structural auxiliary words. The dissertation also points out that there are differences in degree meanings between adjective reduplications with structural auxiliary words and those without structural auxiliary words.The fifth chapter reveals adjective reduplication's essential characteristics in meaning from such three aspects as degree meaning,stylistic coloring and sentimental coloring. In analysis of degree meaning, all reduplication's degree meaning but ABAB and AXX is strengthened compared with basic form, but the quantity strengthen is a relative and moderate one. Different structural forms,different phonetic forms and different grammatical structure causes degree difference in adjective reduplication, which results in certain rank orders. All reduplication but ABAB intensify object's certain quality by reduplication to reinforce its description and state. In term of sentimental coloring, sentimental coloring of AA adjective,AAAA adjective,AXX adjective,AABB adjective and ABB adjective have some changes. Changes in sentimental coloring of AA adjective,AAAA adjective,AABB adjective and ABB adjective is caused by changes in tone, while the one of AXX is not only resulted from phonetic changes but also from A and XX's sentimental coloring.In conclusion, this dissertation summarizes the main content and general conclusion of its analysis and research and bring forward existing problems in present adjective reduplication of Lishui SHE dialect's and the development trend of SHE dialect.
