In the first half part of 19th century, some new disciplines(e.g.,modern historiography) were arising in the German university scholarship system. In that time when new and old disciplines were often in a controversy with each other,as a historian,Droysen (1808-1884),who had been a classical philologist in his early life before he latter turned to historiography, hoped to develop a new kind of theory of history which would defend the modern historiography. It is the crucial reason why he seldom commented on theories of classical philology which had been developed by Friedrich August Wolf,August Boeckh. Also as a historian, who had been worked as a classical philologist for several years, Droysen remained under the influence of philological theories, and it was a trump to help him to distinguish his Historik from other theories of history.By sternly defining the concept of Historik,Droysen attempted to differentiate his Historik completely from other theories of history which had developed before he lectured Historik in Jena and Berlin, including an encyclopedia of historical sciences, a philosophy(or theology) of history,a physics of historical world,or a poetics of history.Recent researches, however, have ascertained he couldn't do it.Droysen's Historik still has close relation to other theories of history. As a student of Hegel,Droysen was profoundly impacted by German idealistic philosophy to so great extent that his Historik was neglected for a long time because of its speculative style and has gained more attention once more in the latest decades. Idealistic philosophy shaped his ideas of history, and made it possible to reevaluate those philological and historical theories molded earlier and transform them on a new horizon of thought.I would devote myself to Droysen's Grundriss der Historik,especially§16(12),§17(13) and§18(14) and expect to mainly deal with such a problem:how the controversies of disciplines had a strong impact on the basic concepts and structure of Grundriss and Historik. In the first part, the life of Droysen and impressions of others on him would be introduced in brief,in order to make readers know the basic information on Droysen. The second part contains two chapters. At first,I will describe the controversies of some closely related disciplines(classical philology, idealistic philosophy and theories of history before Droysen) which affected Droysen's definition of Historik, and then, by analyzing two important concepts(Historik,Organon),I will argue that Droysen's Historik could not be separated wholly from traditions of other theories. In the third part,I will response how the controversies of disciplines had a strong impact on the basic concepts and structure of Grundriss.By analyzing the concept Forschung(research),in the first chapter,I attempt to demonstrate that Droysen's Historik developed the conception of Interpretation which arose from the tradition of philological theories. In the second chapter,I illustrate that the structure of Systematik was one mixture of theoretical form of classical philology and Hegel's philosophy of history. In last chapter,I will interpret the significance of Topik(theory of historical representation) by comparing earlier editions of Grundriss with the edition of 1882.
