Ideological work relates to wax and wane of party and state together with the happiness of the common people. For a current nation sharing the same ideological root with Soviet Union, lessons from the Communist Party of Soviet Union (CPUS) of ideological work is of utmost importance and great meaning as a warning and model significance. It can help us to explore the ideological reason of Soviet disintegration and what mistakes CPUS had made on earth to have a deep research into gain and loss and generalize the lessons of ideological work in Soviet Union. It is also valuable and instructive for us to enrich and develop the basic theories of Scientific Socialism by advancing with times; it is of practical meaning for doing well the ideological work at present, realizing the harmonious and well-off society of socialism in an all-round way and pushing forward the great work of socialism with Chinese characteristics.The dissertation is directed by Marxism and Leninism with emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts as ground rules to study the ideological work in the different periods of CPSU in power as its logical clue. It, based on absorbing the achievements we have already had, takes the theoretical construction, thought and ethic construction, propaganda work and cultural construction as the breakthrough point and utilizes some research approaches such as method of historical and logic unification, dialectical materialism, induction, analytical method, literature research and so on in order to have an overall and profound understanding of gain and loss as well as experiences and lessons in the ideological work and provide the necessary theoretical principles and policy support for the ideological work under the new conditions in the current socialism states learning historical and Soviet lessons.The dissertation includes the preface and the six chapters. The preface is about the importance and the function of ideological work, states the practical and theoretical meaning of the topic, analyzes the current situation of the research and introduces the basic thinking and main research approaches.Lenin created a new era and paved the way for ideological work of the CPUS. This period saw great achievements in the ideological work, which provided the essential"civilization premise"for socialism construction. The ideological work of CPUS established Scientific Socialism of Marx and Engels as the leading direction in the ideological field, and made a huge contribution for consolidating and strengthening the newly-born Soviet Union and socialist system.Stalin highlighted and consolidated the socialist ideological work. He, on the one hand, adhered to and developed the Marxism and Leninism in many major issues of theory and practice; on the other hand, due to the deviation and limitation of the socialist theory and practice and the disadvantages of the system, ideological work didn't make a success as expected and left profound lessons and enlightenment.The third chapter introduces that Khrushchev adjusted the deviation of the ideological work in Stalin period. However, he didn't have a proper and suitable control in the practical work so that there was confusion in thought field of common people and a flood of the bourgeoisie liberalization, which had a fearfully passive effect on the ideological workAfter the adjustment and confusion, the ideological work in Brezhnevian period stepped into a stagnation and distress period. Gorbachevian reform turned into"the change of direction"and gave up Marxist status as fundamental directive thought in ideological field, which led to the situation of being out-of-control and collapse of the ideological work during the period of CPSU in powerThe last summarizes the lessons and enlightenment of the ideological work during the period of CPSU in power, probes how the current socialist states can draw lessons from Soviet Union, do well in the ideological work at present, and serve the socialist construction as a whole.
