Study On The CPSU's Legitimacy During Brezhnev's Period

Any of regime must have certain legitimacy resources. Brezhnev's communist party is not exceptional.In the Brezhnev period, the legitimacy of the communist party has mainly communist ideology resources, political system resources, rule performance resource and charm resources performance. These legitimacy resources have played an important role for the Soviet regime's normal operation. However, any kind of legitimacy resources have their limits when they put into operation, so It has to play a role under certain conditions.This thesis mainly use historical research, document analysis, comprehensive research and methods of legitimacy theory to study the legitimacy resources of Brezhnev's communist party.First, ideology, it is the very important legitimacy resources for Brezhnev period, played an important role of the relief valve. however, due to its inherent regularity of ideology, and the performance of the rule, with the passage of time, it exists between the social reality, which makes the ability to explain social reality and to legitimize declined.Second, political system, it is the ruling legitimacy source of Brezhnev's communist party, Political system of democracy and equality play important role to obtain the recognition and support of Public. However, owing to the political system operation process deviate from democracy and equality of Ideological requirements and Serious corruption in the political life lead to the decline of the legitimacy of the political system functions.Third, ruling performance legitimacy resources, because material performance, stability performance, citizenship performance, etc conducted themselves well, the legitimacy played an important function in this period. however, due to the constraints of performance of the legitimacy plight and ideology, all these limited the legitimate function.Fourth, charismatic legitimacy resources, Brezhnev attempts to make personal charm and with charismatic legitimacy resources to help rule, but, owing to Brezhnev does not have the extraordinary as Lenin and Stalin, also due to personal charm has not reproduce the legitimacy of ability, Brezhnev made efforts, the result can only be backfire.By study on the Soviet Regime Legitimacy resources, we realized that communist party have to adjust according to development and changes of the times in order to make legitimacy resources work effectively.
