Studies Of The Undergoing Growing-up Fiction In Contemporary China

Youth is fine, so is growth. How to march into the complicated and complex real society from the romantic fairy world, each person has to undergo with his/her personal distinctness. The ambivalent mentality of shaking off the restrictions of being an adult with the yearning to be a member of adult world as well as having to depend on the adult world attracts so many writers to make the most beautiful days and hours as their descriptive object. It is from this unique perspective that both writers express their views towards the world and critics analyze the views of theses writers that bring a new possibility for literature research.As an independent style, growing-up fiction in western countries has a long history for hundreds of years and its literature research is rather mature; while in contemporary China, whether the fiction creation or theoretical studies of growing-up fiction has just begun. With the great interest in this subject, the author started to focus on this study.The introduction part of this dissertation titled"the growing'growing-up fiction'"starts from the definition of"growing-up fiction", the author points out the current vague and confusing situation of the studies of growing-up fiction in contemporary China and puts forward China's concept of"growing-up fiction based on the above combing, then further analyzes the differences among growing-up fictions, children's fictions, adolescents'fictions and youth fictions, and gives a demarcation of the studies of"growing-up fiction"from the angle of its concept and elects certain texts as the starting point for narration.In the first chapter titled"the theme of growing-up fiction"based on the concept, the author analyzes the typical texts of contemporary growing-up fictions range from the foundation time of new China to current period from the perspective of thematology through analyzing the inevitable growing events such as growth and dream, growth and treachery, growth and wandering, growth and love and desire, growth and death for individuals when grow up, and try to find out the manifestation and significance of these thematic contents in literature. Af ter discussion, the author finds out that there is a gleaming silhouette loafing behind the theme—the effect of politics and economy. No matter what the theme is, it will varies drastically with the changes occurred in contemporary China.In the second chapter titled"the narration of growing-up fiction"focusing on the angle of narratology, the author analyzes the texts of fictions from the perspective of narrative structure, narrative angle and narrative character. Starting from the prototype theory of fiction recounting, the narrative structure analyzed the prototype of growing-up fiction and expounds the reasons for variation of recounting modes of growing-up fiction in China, and reveals the evolution and development of the narrative structure of growing-up fiction in contemporary China. The narrative perspective is different from thematic contents, it refers to the different initiating means for writers to narrate stories, the author interprets the narrative angle for growing-up fiction from the following four planes—revolution narration , life narration , female narration and consumption narration—The four levels actually like the thematic contents of growing-up fiction closely accompany the social changes of contemporary China. Narrative character, namely the people in fictions, together with narrative structure and narrative angle ,are three major essential elements for fictions, no fiction can exist without character. The narrative character in growing-up fiction primarily is the growing subject, then includes the leading person accompanying with the growth of the leading character and the companion co-experienced the growth process. In this dissertation , the author explores the uniqueness of the characters in growing-up fiction compared with those in other type fictions and anticipates the development trend of the writers of growing-up fiction.In the conclusion part, the views on the theme and narration of growing-up fiction is re-stressed, besides some drawbacks of this dissertation are also put forward.Adolescence is a very important period in life, so is the growing-up fiction describing stories in such unusual time. It would not be meaningful for the studies of growing-up fiction until the research on growing-up fiction would go further and be mature and the creation of such kind of fiction would be given good guidance.
