This paper discusses meanings of genders in Mongolian novel narratives that were written in 20th century Inner Mongolia, in reference to identity in modern world. The thesis consists of introduction, main body(four chapters) and conclusion.Introduction talks about significance of gender and identity, reason for research of the topics, research results in the field and relevant issues in methodology.Chapter one discusses historical period of time (1903-1949), during which male Mongol elites advocated education for women, and as image of "outsides" led women into modern society in Mongol narratives.Chapter two explains a political discourse (1949-1980) in which the images of "outsiders" were replaced with communist revolutionaries who led women joining the revolutionary contingent for "love" on socialist road. The CCP as symbolic father guided people, who appeared in image of female, in the political cause. A number of images of "iron girls", in which attribute of sex were blurred and even denied, in Mongol literary writings in the period of time.Chapter three explores the process ( from 1980s onward) in which male intellectuals, dominant images in Mongol fictions in the period of time, reconstructs subjectivity of Mongol identity, and females as objective of desire have been highlighted the relevant narratives.Chapter four gives an account of how male authors, in order to construct male self, have called for "spirit of Hiyan", and have created images of females that characterize "traditional mother" and modern intellectual women as well.The author concludes that "deconstruction is superficial and intensification essential" in Mongol fiction in Inner Mongolia.
