A Study Of Nanshan Xianghua In The Border Of Hunan Province And Guangxi Province

The eyes of the scholars of linguistics circle were focused on Xianghua for its special phonetic characters since Mr. Wang Fushi published his paper "The sound of Luxi Waxianghua in Hunan" in the 1980s.After that,more and more papers and works on Xianghua came out,but the area of these studies on Xianghua was limited in the northwest of Hunan.Later a few scholars mentioned there was Xianghua in the area of Nanshan in Cheng bu county,but there was no relevant and particular research report up to now.Following with my tutor's guidance,I chose Nanshan Xiang hua as the object of my dissertation.According to my research,Nanshan Xianghua in the border of Hunan province and guangxi province is a Chinese dialect which the emigrations brought from Yongping of Shaojiwan town in Yuanling county over 200 years ago.More than 200 years passed,Nanshan Xianghua not only keeps some phonetic features of Xiangxi Xianghua,but also it has its own evolution track because of the changes of geography and language surroundings.The dissertation tries to compare Nanshan Xianghua with Xiangxi Xianghua on sound and words in order to excavate their common characters and sort out their diachronic evolution.We arrange the chapters as following:The first chapter:Introduction This chapter introduces the geogrophy and language surroundings of Nanshan Xianghua and its historic backg round.Meanwhile we also explain the object,the methods and the value of the study.The second chapter:To discribe the phonology system of Nanshan Xiang hua,specially to intruduce its phonetic characters.The third chapter:To compare the initial consonants of Nanshan Xiang hua and Xiangxi Xianghua in order to give prominence to their common characters in initial consonants.The fourth chapter:To compare the finals of Nanshan Xianghua and Xian gxi Xianghua. We sort out all kinds of pronunciation of every rhyme and try to deduce their diachronic evolution from their synchronic phonetic differences.The fifth chapter:To compare the tones of Nanshan Xianghua and Xiang xi Xianghua.We use the method of data statistics to show the current pronunciations of the ancient tones,and then we compare the tones in order to dig out the common characters and the evolution in tones. The sixth chapter:To compare the words of Nanshan Xianghua and Xiang xi Xianghua.Mainly we discuss the words in common use,the suffix"子",the appellations of the kinsfolk and the marks of the female and male animals.We try to find out the common and the dividual characters.Conclusion:On the basis of the comparisons we conclude the common characters on the sounds and words of Nanshan Xianghua and Xiangxi Xianghua.At the same time,we gather up their individual phonetic and lexical evolution as a result of their own languge surroundings.
