On Theoretical Integration Of International Trade And International Direct Investment

With the globalization of the economy and the in-depth understanding of the international trade and international direct investment, it is recognized that international trade and international direct investment are virtually different choices of the same active entity. Both have a same basis of making-decision. By reviewing the development of international trade and international direct investment, it would not be too difficult to discover that both of them result from international division of labor. Therefore, theories concerning international division of labor can be utilized to explain the theories and practice of international trade and international direct investment. The international division of labor theory is a common basis of theoretical integration and the point of entrance in the research of the thesis.However because the research object and the theoretical precondition are entirely different, the traditional international trade theories and international direct investment theories were generally constructed and examined based upon two different analytical frameworks. Despite many scholars made some positive attempt on integration of the international trade theories and international direct investment theories. They did not achieve notable results. Tracing back to the researches on international trade theories and international direct investment theories, the thesis, which draws heavily on preceding researches, takes up the thread of international division of labor that is neglected by neoclassical economics, and develops it following X. K.Yang's approach, to put the international trade theories and international direct investment theories into one single theoretical analytical framework.Firstly, in the beginning of chapter 1, the thesis raises the research issues by way of a series of phenomenon to explain the tend of integration of the international trade and international direct investment that is clearing day by day, following with research objective, significances and implications, research methodology, main idea and construct of the thesis. Finally puts forward the research conclusions, innovative points and limitations.Chapter 2 traces back to the results of the related theoretical integration researches on international division of labor theories, International trade theories, international direct investment theories and industrial organization theories, depicts in brief the profound influence of these theories during the development process of the international trade and international direct investment, and theexperience of the researches for reference for the latter. Then, the chapter introduces some new economics theories that have the representative research results, and find out the basis and enlighten that can extend my train of thought and the way of theoretical creation.Chapter 3 brings up the issues, basic concepts and conditions, form the insufficient and limitation of the related researches on the international trade theories and international direct investment theories, to set the basis of theoretical integration of the international trade and international direct investment, and analysis over the new analytical framework of the integrated theory and related mathematical deduction, then sums up the economic implication of the new theoretical analytical framework.On the basis of the new theoretical analytical framework, chapter 4 restates the integration of the international trade theories and international direct investment theories.
