Dual economy is a basic characteristic of Chinese economy. The modernization of Chinese economy is facing the task to urbanize a large surplus population in the rural areas that is the migration of labor from the rural to the urban. This dissertation deals with the relationship between labor migration and human capital investment in the urbanization of china. The dissertation is divided into 8 chapters. The first chapter is a preface. The second deals with development of dual economy and the present situation of the urbanization of china. The third: a mathematical model of rural-urban migration and the existent problems in Chinese labor migration. The fourth: a suitable analysis model of human capital investment. The fifth: the present situation and problems of human capital in Chinese rural area. The sixth: mutual promotion between labor migration and human capital. The seventh: the influence of risk, uncertainty and human capital on migration behavior. The eighth: rural-urban migration and institution arrangement of human capital investment.Firstly, the concept of dual economy is analyzed, representative models of labor migration are introduced and some developments are made by putting human capital factors into the models. Then, a careful comparison between urbanization of china and rural-urban migration is carried out using former analysis outcome. Our conclusion is that the lag of labor migration in Chinese rural areas is attributed to scarcity of human investment.Secondly, human investment theory, especially related to a micro-model of rural-urban migration is discussed ,and human capital investment models based on labor factors are established , they are an income model of human investment , a return rate model of human investment and a relation model of human capital , income and ability . Micro-theories of human capital investment are also discussed here. Thirdly, the present situation of human capital and existent problems are carefully discussed on the base of large statistical data, the reason of scarcity of human capital investment is pointed out. An empirical study is carried out to analyse the human capital investment difference of rural migrated labor, un-migrated labor and returned labor, and the importance of human capital in rural labor migration is emphasized here. Mutual driven relationship between human capital and social capital in themigration is empirically studied. At last, institutional factors of rural-urban segregation are analysed here. Some uncertain factors in rural-urban migration lead to limited rationality which in turn causes migration difficulties. An institution arrangement to promote rural-urban self investment in human capital is put forward. An conclusion is drawn out that there exits a mutual promotion relationship between rural-urban labor migration and human capital, and to overcome rural labor's limited rationality and promote them to smoothly migrate to the urban, an institution arrangement which can improve the rural labor's human capital must be established.
