The 21st century is the century of the urbanization. Both townie regionalism and regional urbanism are the inevitable outcome of improvement the level of the urbanization. Interaction of the city and region is the direct motive force that promotes townie regionalism and regional urbanism. Therefore, it is particularly important to study interaction of the city and region in order to improve the competitiveness of the city and region under the backgrounds of the economic globalization, regional integration and revival of the northeast old industrial base nowadays.It is one of the core requisitions to coordinate the development of the city and the region for the development and reform of China in the future, that has the concrete theoretical basis and the sufficient practice. From the analysis of the features and the trend of social and economic stage, the problems of the city and region development in China will occur in single area and embody in some respect, but possible in all areas and whole respects. It is imperative for the Northeast, which confronted chance for the reformation and renewal, to solve the bottle neck problems which constrain the social and economic development of the city and regions.The dissertation relies on the thread with interactive relation and evolution of the city and region, uses the theories and methods of relevant subjects, such as urban geography, urban planning, economics, regional economic geography and sociology, and adopts the method of theory and practical investigation. It analyzes historical evolution, current situation characteristic, problems, mutual active mechanism of the city and region of in the Northeast. Meanwhile, it puts forward a manipulative model and its countermeasures, An initially theoretical system of interaction between the city and region has been established. There are five chapters in this paper:Starting with such concepts as interaction of the city and region and theurban-regional system, chapter one discusses the intension of interactive theory of the city and region and the structure and function of the urban-regional system. And it analyzes the close relationship between every theory and interaction of the city and region, as well.From the point of view of interactive relation, chapter two stress on the process of coordinating development of the city and region, mechanism regional type, manipulative method, and so on. And it sets up a frame of interactive theory on interaction of the city and region.Chapter three analyses the interactive history and current situation of the city and region in the Northeast. And it emphatically elaborates the evolutionary process, the present situation characteristic and the existing problems about the interaction of the city and region in the Northeast.Chapter four analyzes the impact on interactive content, channel, intensity their changing course of the city and region in the Northeast, because of the changes of the position, transportation, and resource natural endowment.It elaborates factors such as external force involvement and economic transition period, which affect and restrict the interaction of the city and region, and have an impact on the development, relationship and interaction of the city and region during specific historical periods in the Northeast.
