Michael Sandel as important representative of communitarianism criticizes liberalism in many ways. Sandel criticizes theory foundation of liberalism as moral philosophy (political philosophy) and indicate the limits of liberalism. Particularly, Sandel refutes Rawls' s justice theoretical foundation: priority of the self over its ends, priority of the right over the good, new contractual reason and public rationality. Sandel considers that understanding on political agency should be from community; he holds that we should have renounced politics rights—based and advocated politics common good—based.The whole thesis consists of introduction remarks five chapter and concluding remarks. The introductory chapter chiefly introduces brief of Sandel' s political philosophy and studying circumstances, what challenge does Sandel' s theory to Marxism? The introduction inquiries Sandel' s background of communitarianism and Sandel' s thought linguistic reality.At first chapter we analyzes Sandel' s critique on Rawls' s moral agency. Sandel considers that Rawls' s self is transcendental as well as antecedently individuated subject from ontology. Sandel holds that moral agency (political agency) should be "constituted self as citizen accepting and approving aims of community. From the view of modern Marxism, moral agency (political agency) should be a member of community who carry out communicative practice.At second chapter, we attempt to think Sandel' s political epistemology. Sandel points out that if liberal public reason is too restrictive, it remains to ask whether a more spacious public reason would sacrifice the ideals that political liberalism seeks to promote, notably mutual respect among citizens who hold conflicting moral and religious views. Sandel considers that capability of self—reflection would be actual on the background of community.
