The abrupt end of the cold war has profoundly affected the pattern of the world. Inthe post-cold-war era, each major power has been adjusting its political, economic, diplomatic and security strategies, so that it may be well-positioned in the new worldorder. Of all bilateral interactions between major powers, the U.S.-India relationshipis the most noteworthy, which has prompted me to explore in this dissertation.Perspectives vary, but I have chosen security, power and economic interest factorsbecause, to me, they are among the most significant aspects in U.S.-India relations, and the increase or decrease of power is the most fundamentalTo Offset India's power in South Asia-Indian Ocean area, the U.S. aids Pakistanand, to counter China's rising power, India is used as a hedge. The Nuclear Issueused to be the No. one barrier to a better U.S.-lndia relations, but the NuclearCooperation Deal has largely solved this problem. But counterterrorism cooperationefforts between the two countries are minimal and symbolic. Economicinteractions and cooperation were of low level, but the past few years have witnessedsubstantial increase, adding new impetus to the already improved relationship. One can't say how U.S.-India relations will evolve for sure, but it certainlydemands attention and further research.
