During the Cold War,for the purpose of getting global hegemony and occupying the dominant position in South Asia,India,as the largest country in South Asia,to develop different policies toward the United States for its own strategic interests.At the same time,relations between the two countries also affected by a variety of external factors.Therefore,it is always complex and changeable.After the Cold War,the Asia-Pacific region has becoming more and more important.The United States began adjusting its foreign policy strategy to occupy the dominant position in South Asia.India has great potential power in the South Asian region,so adapt to the needs of U.S.global strategy.As a new partner in Asia,India can maintain the balance of power in Asia.From the Clinton administration to the Bush administration,as for their pragmatic foreign policy, US-Indian relations have been improved.Clinton faced a serious situation both at home and abroad when he became president of the US.His foreign policy carried out a series of adjustments.In view of India a country with a large population and economic power,so the adjustment of U.S.foreign policy is focusing in India.Subsequently,the two countries cooperated in political,economic,and military regions.Politically the two leaders visited each other;Economically,U.S.supported India's new economic policy;In addition,the two countries had a further cooperation in counter-terrorism,science and technology, environmental protection.The development of relations between the United States and India is influenced by many factors.The main drivers of performance can be summed up in three areas. Firstly,the two countries can help each other in the geopolitical strategy.Secondly, there are great potentially economic interests between the two countries.Thirdly, there are ideological identities between the two countries.These factors make the US-Indian relations been improved.However,due to the different national interests, there are also constraints in the development of relations between the two countries, mainly in the following three aspects.Firstly,their overall strategy objectives of the two countries are different.Secondly,relations between the two countries are affected by other countries.Thirdly,the two countries have differences on many issues.The development of relations between the United States and India will not be smooth because of the constraints.The US-Indian relations development is restricted by four relations(the US-Russia relations, the US-Palestinian relations,the US-India relations and the India -Russia relations),its always in Non-steady state,but it is developing.The US-Indian relations development is good for the USA and Indian.they can realize their benefits.It destructs the balance in South Asian area.Also it have grate Influence in Asian and Pacific area.In short,the US-India relations,whether being an upward trend or downward trend,will always in change and adjustment in principle of the supremacy of national interests.Both countries common interests made the US-Indian relations development to be rapid, Differences Bring hinders to the US-Indian relations.So the US-Indian relations will always in Non-steady state.
